High altitude and the effects on the 12
Ok, so some of you know I'm doing a lot of high altitude riding.
The lack of o2 really knocks the 12 down in the HP category.
What are my options? Will a PCIII alone resolve the issue?

High Altitude ECU bro.
Start there. Kawasaki (I believe) will do a one time replacement for you under warranty.

Whatever You do You'll HP:s are down, but right compensation gives the best possible. I think that the High Altitude ECU was only for the '00 year. The later ones didn't had problem - so had HA ECU from the start. I got mine changed under warranty. It gave a little better response also in low altitudes and held the RPM:s better on altitude.

Can you just take fuel out with the pc3.
High Altitude = less air
less air = less fuel requirements.
Bike is running rich.

Think of it this way:
Less air = less compression. Not as much air to squeeze. There are a few things one can do to compensate a tiny bit.
1. Drop down your octane rating. At 4500 feet one loses almost 2 points in compression. No need for the high octane rating.
2. Bump the timing up a bit. The advance curve is set to minimize pinging, There is less pinging at altitude.
3. Make sure the mixture is right, although modern computers compensate well. They have a barometric pressure sensor and they compensate for the altitude.
4. Raise your compression ratio, This is probably one of the more effective mods you can do. If you raise it, you must run the high octane fuel again and bump back the timing if you did either.
Remember just leaning out the mixture only = less fuel + less air = less power
I have a 2000 12 that runs flawlessly with the stock ECU (not the high altitude). The high altitude ECU was only to clear up an idling and throttle response problem. .
