FELL !! NEED TRANNY QUESTION ANSWERED.
i dumped my bike about 30 mph,, hit a car that came out of a side block,, the bike initially was hit on the right and fell on the left. the shifter was snapped off at the seen,, pulled the clucth and brought it home,, took 2 months to rebuild it,, and when i took it for its first ride,the thing wouldnt shift properly,,was never able to find nuetral,, is there any feedback from you guys,,possibly on tranny problems,,or something similar,,that might have hapened,,and any suggestions on where to look,, i was thinking(since it was dark) nto take off the lonkage,,and then clip a vise grip( first off to see if it is sifting properly,, but it is the night before ,, and it is bugging the shit out of me,, thanx for the input guys!!,,
also i dont know if the shift mechanizm is accessable without removing the engine,, any feedback,,on what the worst case to best case scenario is would be greatly appreciated

1 more question to add,, been reading other tranny topics,,and it seems that a couple of guys refer to spinning,,when talking about trying to shift the shift mechanizm,, if i pull the linkage,,will i be able to clip a vise grip ,,and expect it to go through the gears or not,, do i need to manually spin the wheel to get gears shifting or not,, any help?

Check you clutch plates before you dig to deep.
How does it feel? does it pull when stopped?

since i fell,, like i said before,,the shift linkage broke,, so i pulled in the clutch and rode it home,, tghen i replaced the radiator,,and bodywork,, i then took it for the maiden voyage after about two months,, it started no problem,, shifted into gear weirdly and when i took off,, it wouldnt find nuetral again,, it was like it wouldnt down shift,, i know i never got past third,, and then i would have to rev really high just to take off to get it to my brothers,,
very wierd,,cmon guys lets get some input,, trying to figure it out before i start to disect her.

So the tranny hasn't been opened? The rebuild was other parts than going to the motor? I first thouhgt that maybe You forgot to put the "positive neutral finder" back when rebuilding. But if it hasn't been opened that's not possible. I would also start from the clutch. And when You are there then inspect the shifting mechanism. It can be done without tearing up the momtor. You have to remove clutch basket and right side cover to get access. So not that big of job. Then I would look for bent sift forks...

Another friend of mine somehow bent the connection pins on the gear shift shaft viewable behind the clutch basket. That will prevent proper turning of the shift drum......ie no neutral or proper shifting.

i here talk about proper spacing etc. when it comes to the clutch,, does that play a role when i remove the basket,,or does the basket go right back in no problem the way it came out?

i did put the linkage on to angle it down ward so i have better toe feel,, could that be the problem,,i di so by removeing the complete linkage,,instead of just the barrel twist adjuster,,could that be it at all?

update,,in the day light,, it appears to my naked eye,,that the shift shaft is slightly bent,,where the linkage hooks to the splined area,, dont know if that is a direct affect,,but i is slightly bent,,are any of you guys in the NYC area,, or know of someone who has tackled one of these tranny problems before,, is the shift shaft replacable trough the cluctch cover,, or does it go in through the oil pan,, thanks guys

Shift Shaft slightly bent (visibly)
could this be the reason why my bike is stuck in a certain gear (dont know which one i think third) cant find nuetral) the bike starts no problem,,but it wont leave the gear that it is in,, need a good wrench in the NYC area who is savy in this area,, unless you guys talk me into attempting in on my own. who rather a knowlegable person tackle it,, HELP!

just talked to robinson industries,,and he said that the tolerances are miniscule,,so on the other end the problem is the shaft itself,, but i dont knowif i can tackle an ordeal such as this. any feed back

Sounds like a shift shaft with some type of issue. If you hit something hard enough to break the linkage on the left, then possibly it also push it or turned it hard enough to damage the shaft. This would effect the shift drum functioning properly as it is turned by the same shift shaft but on the right side behind the clutch basket.
You can remove the entire basket. No clearancing issues, just make sure that you put it back as you removed it. The shaft can be replaced without removing the motor. I would SERIOUSLY doubt any transmission problems. PS. replace your shift forks at the same time, since you are already there.
