You can say that again fellas. Kids are awesome, and they really make a guy reflect on things he'd otherwise never think about. This time of year especially, seeing their eyes light up with the anticipation of Christmas.

I love this time of year, Christmas in nothing without the kids.

Maybe????

It reminds me of one time when I was working for a friend and his dad. I was 15, maybe 16, and they had a lawncare service. We'd finished cutting these folks' grass one day and I was loading the mower that I was using back onto the trailer. David had parked the truck in the driveway, instead of out by the curb where he usually parked it when we did this particular lawn. Well seein' as how I was goin' up a fairly steep set of trailer ramps, and on a nice incline to boot.................. you guessed, throttle wide open and dumped the clutch. Well the ol' Snapper had never toted a wheelie like this before and I wasn't about to clutch it and be denied the minger!!!! Well I miscalculated a bit, and let her touch down a shade too late, and not very smooth I might add. I fuckin' cased the mower deck right into the angle-iron railing that went around the front of the trailer!!! It messed the deck up real proper like, of course David saw it all and laughed like hell. Big Jerry didn't find it amusing and threatened to kick my ass, and he meant it and would do it. Needless to say I worked for free the rest of that day, and a couple more after that.

It was worth it though!!!!!!!!!!! Just one of many stories where Big Jerry (may he rest in peace) was gonna kick my ass!!!! We had a love / hate relationship,.....he loved to hate me. LOL I never met a person like Big Jerry, about 6' 2" and 475 lbs. of redneck meaness. I could write tons of stories about the guy, but if you never met him in person you could never truly understand how he was. He was feared by most everyone, including the local cops, and I saw firsthand a few times just how damned scared they were of the guy. One of them was when the cops were trying to arrest David and I for terrorizing the town on a four-wheeler, and a 3-wheeler. It was bad ass, I was on a Toomey built Banshee and could fuckin' wreak havoc on those POS Dodge Diplomats. David was on a TRI-Z 250, so he was sort of a sacrificial lamb. We had done all this hell raising and slipped back to David's house and locked the Banshee and the Tri-Z up in the shop. We then got in David's truck and got the hell out of there. Even though the cops had slow-assed cars, they weren't stupid, and had a real good hunch that it was David and I. So they go to David's house and start banging on the door. Jerry had no idea of what we'd done, so when he answered the door he was sorta shocked to see the cops. So while the cops are there they tell him all about what had happened. He gets on the phone and locates us at a buds house and tells us to get our asses over there asap. So we're friggin' scared shitless, and hoping that he's fucking with us. Well he wasn't, the 2 Dodge Diplomats with the blues on parked out by the curb let us know we were in deep do-do.

We go in the house and these two cops start yelling and getting all pissy. Jerry told them to shut-up and give us a minute to talk. He asked us if we had been outrunning the cops earlier??? We lied like we ain't never lied before, I mean academy award lying. He told the cops the hit the fuckin' door, and that's a quote. Of course they laughed and said there was no way that they were gonna leave. That big sonofabitch stood up and flipped a LARGE table over in the process and gave them 5 seconds to get out. They left, only to come back with 2 county deputies about a half hour later. Didn't phase Big Jerry, he cussed them all like dogs and threatened to kick their asses. One young dude almost pepper-sprayed him, but was advised not to by another officer. They ask him to open up the shop so they could look around, he wouldn't let them. They threatened get a warrant and advised him to comply. He told them to go get fucked and he was going to go in and go to bed. So he went inside,........ and called the mayor. See he had a contract with the city as the caretaker for a very large cemetary. He told the mayor what was going on and told him that if he didn't call his "dogs" off that he was gonna take all the dirt we'd moved off of that cemetary and dump it on the steps @ city hall !!!! It was classic, and it worked!!!

BUT, there always has to be a but, when the fuzz left he friggin' went ballistic on us as he knew we were lying like dogs. Somewhere in the mix it became all my fault and he was like a Marine drill sargent friggin' SCREAMING and inches away from my face. In this rant he said "It's sonofabitches like you that get everybody in trouble"!!! Well then my redneck genes kicked in and I started to fire back, because not even this fat french fry eatin' bastard was gonna call me a sonofabitch. Well David grabbed me and pulled me out of the house and told me to just shut the fuck up and let Jerry have his say and it'd be over. Needless to say I wasn't having it. I told David that nobody was gonna call me that and get away with it. That's about the time Big Jerry damned nigh tore the stormdoor off the backporch. He wasn't finished with me, and I'd never ever seen him this mad. I knew I'd better just let this crazy bastard say what he needed to say and be done with it. He did, and like David said it would be, it was over. Or so I thought.

To this day, David affectionately calls me "Ol' Sonofabitch". His dad has been dead almost 10 years now, and we can talk about some of those times like it was yesterday. Jerry was kinda like Harry, a fella that just don't give a rats ass what you think about him. He was a person that you could never forget. I miss that old bastard.

Sorry to get off topic, but I'm glad Chris' comment sparked these memories of a colorful character I was fortunate enough to know.
