Putting a pet down, hardest damn thing

Had to put Muzzy down yesteday, one of my cats. He was MY 1st pet. GOt him 14 years ago with his brother Rainey. Meant a lot to me, he had kidney failure and even 2 days in the hospital and $2000 later, he never came back around. Held him while they gave him the shot, he looked up at me then his head slumped against my chest. Saddest Goddamn thing I've ever had to do. At home for the last 2 days Rainey has been really confused, wondering where his brother is, I'm sad for him too. Bye Muzzy, I'll miss you.

Neat Names. Some people should not own Animals but people like you should. It is a responsibility and either you take it and do what you did (Spend the Money just to make sure they cannot be saved) or you do not spend the money and be a person that should not own an Animal. My Mom have a dog that had Kidney failure. I sent her $200 to have the blood cleaned and make her feel good then put her to sleep before the pain came back.

I do not own any pets because I cannot put a chain around something's neck and pen it up (Something to do with how people have been treated in the past) in a small yard and take it places where the heat and noise would hurt it. If I lived in the country and had a large place THEN I would.

I was a difficult time when we had to put our cat down for the same reason. I vowed to never have another pet again.

I felt the same way when I had to put my dog down , and for a few weeks I was hurting pretty bad , then you realize that the SPCA and others are full all the time , and maybe you can save another and give it a nice life too . Sorry for your loss , I think if we had to put one of our dogs down now ( we have two ) we'd need to get another right away just to keep the one company .

I've always been torn between the pain of losing a pet vs not getting any more....

Rips my heart out... my friends always say, "Remember all the good times"

It doesn't help me to hear that, but maybe it will you.... Personally, I cry like a baby, and
for days I'm not worth shit... It's like losing a family member.

Hope you feel better in the next few days...

Hang in there C. I feel for you and the family as this isn't an easy thing to deal with. I've lost some pets in my day and it rendered me useless for a while like 238.

Sorry to hear of your loss, as others have said, it is always a hard thing to go through. I agree with Junior and JJ though, the best thing for your remaining cat may be to get it another friend. I also had 2 cats, brother and sister they were inserperable, we lost one in a house fire, tried leaving the other with friends while the house was being rebuilt but would not get along with any other animals so did not think it would accept another cat. However once we got back into our house we got a little kitten and it did take about a week before it would go in the same room as the kitten, but now they are best of friends and play all the time, it has actually given the older cat new life and is much more active now.

Otis- Sorry for your loss. I have had to do this to many times already in my lifetime. I have a Jack Russell nearing the end of his time and dread the thought of loosing him. Based on MUZZY'S name I am sure he was a fun and loyal friend.

...sorry, Otis...I've always believed that our pets are not like family members...they ARE family members...with this tight and telepathic bond that I have with my K9 partner of eight years by the time he retires, I sometimes hope that we'd punch out together on the job...I know that I'd be a mess without him...he's a good dog and a great partner who always has my back...not to sound uncaring, but ultimately human life takes priority and our lives go on...hope you feel better soon...

I didn't know what this thread was about till just now when I opened it. I cry like a school girl when one of my pets has to be put down I don't hunt and kill animals either because I just can't kill something that did nothing to me. I'm very Sad for you and your loss. I have NO pets at this time for the very reason that I can't stand to lose them. Once again I'm sorry Otis

Sorry to hear. Losing a pet is just as bad as losing a family member. It hurts...BAD! I've lost 2 now and each one, I just can't stop crying for a few days. I've had the ashes in an urn with their picture on it now. Have always gotten a replacement within a week or 2. It helps and it helps you fall in love with them all over again. And those tears you've shed from you last pet that you loss are replaced with smiles and pictures of the pet that once was, while you take the emotions from the past pet and share them with the new addition.

Its tough Otis.

I've buried people that didn't bother me as much as burying my Dobie ten years ago.

Hang tough bro. It gets better with time.

Real sorry to read Otis. I went through the same a few years back with one of my Saints, we cried like babies for several days. It sucks and there's not much that will heal the pain other than time. It's been almost 2 years now for me and I still get choked up when I see a pic of my now gone Saint.

Hang tough, try to remember the happy days. The pain will ease with time.

Thanks for all the kind words fellas. I had to laugh seeing Rob post on the thread about a cat dying who was named after him. Yes, when I brought Raineya nd Muzzy home from the vet I was wondering what to name them. Of couse I am a motorcycle fanatic and a die hard Kawasaki rider so I named them after Rob Muzzy for his contributions to Kawasaki and horsepower and Wayne Rainey, one of the greatest GP racers of all time.

Thanks again guys.

Otis, if you remember, at one time Rainey and Muzzy were together also in the 80's AMA Superbike Road Racing. A good Team!

Oat, I feel yer pain. Debi put down our Basset hound while I was in Ukraine. All his organs had fail, but, he look in perfect health. I couldn't have done what she had to do. We just put down my favorite cat. He was 14 and was non me like a tick. God gave us animals to bring us pleasure. I guess we shouldn't complain when they go after they bring us many years of companionship. Still make sit hard though.
