question for Doug Meyer
Doug, nice to see you are still available after leaving Muzzy. When Kawasaki redesigned the ZX-11 engine for the ZRX-1200 & the ZZR-1200 did they resolve the oil return problems that caused oil starvation related crank bearing failures on the ZX-11 engines? I have a chance to get a mint low milage ZZR-1200.

I would not give it a moment's thought. The failures on ZX-11's (when used in motorcycles) were almost universally caused by an insufficient oil level in the engine. You are correct that the 11's held a lot of oil on top and if the level got too low there wasn't much margin for error. Keep the oil where it belongs and they'll run forever. When these engine are used in car applications, the return becomes a problem because of teh lateral G loads in left turns. This doesn't happen in a bike because the g load is always perpendicular to the crank.

Also I have not seen any of the ZRX-1200 or ZZR-1100 guys complaining. I believe that I read there was a modification to the design but am not 100% positive -- the context was, a webpage that gives a mod that one can do oneself for the ZX-11 which I believe stated was redundant on the ZRX motor. Scooter Trash will remember which page I am talking about and if that is correct?
