ignition advance +4 add fuel to map?

I have been running +2.5 degrees ignition advance. Just bumped it up to +4. Do I need to add fuel, take some out, or leave it alone. The map I'm running now is a bit high in fuel.

Leave it be Jeff. I have mine at +6 you'll be fine. Try some 89 fuel in as well they like the lower number. Just don't lug it slow in high gear and roll it to the stop from a slow speed. It will rattle if ya do that. How many feet are you where you live? Good air or bad air? Also how are you geared? It's all about engine load for a given compression/ combustion chamber shape as to what you can get away with.

My bike is geared 17/47 and I spin my motor up hard. So I can get by with a little more timing than if I was geared stock and lugged the motor.

Stock gearing. 3500 feet. 91 octane. Air is good. I'm hoping this will give me a one or two tire lenghts on the 1/4 mile. I'll leave it alone. This is what I was going to do, its great to get a good second opinion.

thanks gunner.

Wow! you guys are that high up there. Man we're like 1100 here in knoxville. No wonder your map is fat. I would put the lower fuel in for sure. I always run the cheap shit up at the gap or anytime I'm where the air is bad. You're a big guy Jeff you should hang some gear back on that thing to help her out. Lugging a motor is about the worse thing to do to one short of NO OIL or some crazy shit like that. I'll also bet if you looked at the back side of your valves they'll have a bunch of shit built up on them from the 91 fuel. It don't burn off clean. Hook up with GreenMamba and get some of that Nitro stuff he sells. It will do wonders for cleaning that type of stuff up. Larry is a very honorable guy and I would trust his advise on this stuff. There's a few tricks to using the stuff so talk to Larry direct so he can walk you thru it. Not hard but it needs to be done just how he says for good reason.

Hey Liet, try 87 octane gas...It burns FASTER and is more oxygenated!!!...No need to change Maps for minor changes...Unless your a Pro-DragRacer or Road Racer riding for a Pro-Team in competition to Win a points series!!!

Man I just can't make myself try the 87 even though I agree with what you say. I have too much timing in mine. Lietome is a big guy and with stock gearing hell be puttin a BIG load on the motor. I would be afraid for him to try the 87 unless he hung some gear on there to help his motor out of the strain a little.

Confussion. I run the stupor unleaded @ 91.....I've already got a full tank of 91 so I will try it tonight. After i go thru this, I'll try the 87. Either way, @ 4 degrees it wont hurt.

Gunner,
You like the 17/47 gearing? I had the 17, traded it to boricua for lunch. Commuting with a 17/stock rear (48 is stock rear? or 46)just wasn't practical. 17/47 sounds like a nice combo, maybe a compromise even. I take it that the you combo isn't as high reved as the 17/48?---or is there next to no difference? Don't get me wrong, that shit made me smile ear to ear , but at the track it seemed more prone to spin. 17/47 useses stock shain?

well, I ran it tonight. No times, but I assure you that they weren't impressive by any stretch of the imagination(I'm just not real good YET). The good new is that I believe there is a noticeable improvement in the torque and midrange. I can only judge by my feel before and after the mod. The bike had an extra kick/snap that definitely was NOT there prior to the advance. Seems to run a little rough when below 4K rpm. Maybe thats just me. Really need to get off my ass and get a custom map.

thanks again for the help.

17/47 is down 1 and up 1 from stock. It spins the motor a little harder than stock for sure. The stock chain will fit as well. Keep in mind I don't drag race my sportbikes at the strip. I use them to go around corners and rocket down the straits in between them. Drag racing can be very adicting and fun, but there comes a day when you walk out into the shop and realize that you spend huge amounts of cash for something that you have to trailor around the country and ride very, very little. Example is a perfect weekend is 4 qualifying laps and 4 runs on Sunday if you win! Total seat time is a little over 1 minute. It wasn't enough return for me for the work and cash spent. You may find it different. Kinda like a turbo bike really. For the money spent and work involved the total time at boost and kickin ass between something being BENT, BROKE, BURNED, or just BUSTED is very little!!!!!!! Read carefully I said at Boost. They will run for many miles off boost and loafing thru life, but actual time on boost is small in comparison to total run time, and anytime they're off boost they suck Ass and fall way behind a good NA motor.

Words of wisdon from an older guy who has done it already. DON'T. Keep her breathing on her own and get good at turning left and right. You'll have tons more fun at the end of the day

That was a little off topic so back to the thread at hand.

Good words, This is the reason I got rid of the 200 and balked when I had a chance for a good deal on an extended swing arm. My 12 is just to much fun to limit it to the 1/4 track. Not to mention, track days turning left and right are a lot more expensive than the $7 i spend every friday night to go in a straight line. I guess thats just another joy of having a 12. I work and read the way to running faster in the twisties, and to me, its just more fun than the 1 minute seat time. Hell, It took me over 3 hours last night just to get 40 seconds of track. But damn those 40 seconds were fun!
I'll be taking a more serious approach to running the twisties now that I will be headed to the Rally.
