Need a new project...

So, with the Chevelle and the Camaro done Its time for a new project. One idea was to get an 06 CBR 1000 and see what inside needs fixing. Or, the wife likes the 14. Maybe I can fix that? Maybe the 1375 kit in the 00 12r?

Any ideas?

Mike dont get me going on the looks of the 14. I've moved beyond that. I have accepted that the 14 is ugly, and thats that. But to be honest i went from the 97 cbr xx to the 12r because of the engine. I wouldnt have cared if it came in flat black primer. It was the engine i bought it for. But the 12r is a better looking bike than the 14, but not as good looking as the 10r.

I agree thou. I'd like to see the 14 actually look good.

Yea here's and idea whatever you do stick with Team Green! How about a nice ZX10 project eh..... Since you're looking at a liter bike already over in the RED camp. It would be great to see a 10 properly done in the power dept. It seems that not too many guys want to screw around with the motors on the 10 like they did the 12.

My r-title, well used '00 12R is prime for such a project. Not worth anything to sell, and have a chunk of cash towatds a new 10,14, etc. I'm painting it black over the winter so far, '00's look mean all black.

Gunner, My buddy has a 10r. Cant buy one of those. But once he gets wind of an upgrade of some sort on my part he's gonna want more power. So he'll be sniffing around dont worry. Shit he'll read this post at some point.

Mike, I suck at body work and paint so that kind of stuff is for someone else...

But really, someone has to make some cardboard glue-on covers to put over those cheeze graders, for that $11,000 new bike. Even if they keep getting wet and falling apart and you have to keep cuting them out of cardboard from miller lite 12 pack cases, and glueing them back on, it would be worth it not to have to look at them... WTF were they thinking?

12r1, I'm thinking the muzzy 1375 kit and wheels might be just what this ole 12r needs. Besides new brakes. And I'd still have some cash left over for a 12 bolt for the 02 ss that it WILL need one day soon.

I dunno.....

Hey Jim,
Good to hear from you again. How's the 502 doing?
I talked with a guy who pulled his 502/502 out of his '70 Chvelle and replaced it with a 572/620 and LOVES it. He says it has so much more power (kinda hard to believe) and even runs cooler, it shook the ground with the 4" exhaust he had.

If you decide the 502 not quite enough, I'm ready to upgrade my 454 so keep me in mind.

I like the idea of a ZX10 build up, my youngest son has been 8.70 foot-shifting on a n/a 10 that he also ran 202+ at Maxton on with only a sprocket change. They are awesome bikes.
I'd like to see one that you've worked your magic on.

Dan, the 502 is running well. The wife (its her car) put 600 miles on it this year. She really likes the 5 speed in it. Makes the car much more fun to drive. It also now has p/w, p/b, p/s w/ quick ratio box, and a/c, and all hotchkiss suspension parts. I'm tossing up the idea of putting in a long stroke crank in the 502. We'll see.
Hey, a 150 shot on that 454 would wake it up!!

8.70? wow, how much nitrous? Thr real problem with the 10r is the back seat. My wife sold her bike and now has decided that we need a bike that she can be confortable on the back of. so this situation is unfolding.

Gunner, he would have his bike over hear and i'd be working on two 10r's and buying 10r parts in twos.

NO, man I would buy my own parts Although the motor will probably be apart on mine already this winter it would be nice to have your talent on board for a 10 project. Although I might follow along with my 12R if you decide to go that way. Either way I intend to get back up closer to the top of the food chain before spring time.

Jim, I think you should get into the ZX14...

Nothing else really worth it for a project...The 14 will be around for a while !!!

As for a big 12 motor, well it's been done already...You have to do something new Jim!!!

I dont look around here as much as I should. Has anyone dug into a 10r on this board? I havent seen anything. But then again i just discovered the thread about last summers get together in NJ. : Damn, I would have liked to have been there for that its not far from me. I've been back in car mode for 3 years now and not following the board like i used to.

The 14 might be better than the 12 for my wife. But i'm not holding my breath.

Jim,
The 10 Chad rode was built by Coby Adams, it was all motor. I rode it up & down the return road at Indy and had a chance to play a little.........WOW, it felt gooooood. Coby later installed nirtrous but I never talked with him about how it ran, it had to be fast.

I've 'bout decided to put a plate system on the Malibu and maybe a set of 1.8 rockers, the cam I put in has a 108 degrees centerline and I'm not too sure if it will be alright for nitrous, I'm gonna call Lunati and talk with them. Wonder if just using the 1.8's on the exhaust side would help?

You were a pioneer with the zx12. You even had a complete mod combo named after you! So I feel that you would be cheating yourself and the board if you didn't also do the same thing with the zx14.

You will have a 1352 to start with, that I believe will certainly kick butt. Then you can make your challenge to make simple mods, as before, to make the bike run in the 8.90's. Use 1/4mi MPH as a gauge of performance improvement, not a dyno.

Dan, I would refer to the cam maker first. They know the ramps on the cam etc. As for1.8's you should have a good exhaust on the car. Like a 3-1/2" x pipe and ultraflows. Stay away from flowmasters. Throw them as far into the swamp as you can.

Highlander, I think the only difference I made early with the 12r was telling everyone what I did to my bike. Other people were doing the same basic stuff but they were tight liped about it. I dont race so I have no need to keep things secret. But I can understand why some guys are reluctant to spill the beans.
But basically its all just "adjustments" to tweak the spark, fuel, and air flow from the airbox to exhaust tip. The 14 should respond to all the sane stuff. The 12r WAS unusual in the fact that its bore stroke ratio made it more sensitive to power losses from exhaust back pressure. The 14 shouldnt be as suseptable to it (backpressure), much as the busa didnt gain as much from exhaust mods as a 12 did.

Well sence I have never been to the strip with a bike, I wouldnt be the best guy on the bike for testing. Thats where rick would be handy. Rick you need to buy a 14.

I'm thinking I can make my 12r into a 14r that kicks the new 14's ass, for less money than buying the new 14.
I dug up the flow bench testing data from my head back in 2000 and can see the head will need some work to take advantage of the 1375 cc's. 210 rwhp should be possable.

Jim, I will get a 14...

But I'm into DragRacing different than most of the guys like yourself...I add the least amount of mods, Pipe, gearing, lower bike 3 inches, Billet Basket, cut padding out of seat, then Drag to see how fast I can go with an untouched motor...I do use MR9 though, that fuel is awesome!!!

A big motor 12 has put out 225rwhp with the head done...But it needs to be 62" WB and have an Ohlins or Penske shock to go 8.50s...Ohh and a 2 inch oil pan because of those 330' wheelies that scare ya sometimes

Y2K you are exactly correct... I dont like the 14's big crazy stroke and the bore only 1mm larger than the 12r. I also don't like the haybusa like 11,000 rpm red line. I guarantee a 1287 will smoke a 1352 14r. A short stroke and a big bore is the recipe for horsepower first, torque second. Besides no bike since Gadson's prototype as ran a 9.52 @147 mph and backed up by a 9.48 at a 150mph with only a pipe.. I'll probably go with cams only to go with my extended ecu, or the 1287 and degree my stock cams. I'll still be able to get ( about 200rwhp STD correction factor )

Supra, its just a different power delivery. like the old 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke argument.

But the head on the zx14 i'm sure will be much better than the 12r head in stock form. It will need to be if they want to make 200hp. Bottom line is bigger is better. But for equal cc to cc a short stroke higher reving engine will make more hp at a higher rpm.

Hey, those notches on the rear side panel, are those for my wifes legs? So maybe the strange looking rear side panels are actually functional.
