Busa takes the record back

Heard today that someone did 220+ to take the record back from Doug in the Modified Partial Streamliner - Gas class. Was my info correct? How much HP is that busa making?

Doug: You gonna take it back?

Sorry PV. I shouldn't have assumed that everyone knew the abbreviation. JATO = Jet Assisted Take Off. These are basically small rocket engines used by the military to reduce the distance planes need for takeoff. The are very powerful but short lived. It's awesome to watch a C-130 take off with JATO. After a short roll they jump up at about 45 degree angle and climb like hell. There is an urban legend that some guy in Nevada attached one to his car and exceeded 300 mph only to come to a turn in the road. They found him embedded into the side of a hill with two miles of skid marks behind him where he tried to stop. Or so they say.

The record

I spoke with Rick Yacoucci today regarding his reclaiming of the record. I wish I could report otherwise but yes, he did take it back with a fantastic 220 mph average. I congratulate him. How did he do this? Well, even by his own admission it is nearly unbelievable and "mostly" due to conditions (you wouldn't expect a guy to say "all", would you ) . By all reports the Salt was the best in history, like concrete. Anything that could spin the tires left black marks (I haven't seen that since the 70's).There was virtually no wheelspin. It was jacket weather, with density altitudes around 3800 feet. We've said for years these bikes would go around 220 on a long enough road at sea level and now we know. Many of the records set last week will stand for years I'm sure. Keep in mind that the P-P (Production) record still stands (Rick's) at 201. His Busa has a huge advantage here because of the stock dual exhaust, but our 12 ran within 1 mph of that in August with our single stock appearing exhaust, so it is well within reach next year. I know it's just "woulda coulda shoulda", but I'm sure our bike would have been right there with him had we gone.

"busa takes record back"

hey guys i happen to be in a position where i have both a busa and a 12r and i have to honestly say that quarter mile times(best of 9.93 rt=0.55)and measured top speed of 202 are all being produced by a bone stock motor 00 zx12r. the best the 00 busa has been able to produce is 10.06 rt=0.54 and a top speed 194. both bikes are professionally tuned and maintained and i might add both are identically equiped (muzzy pipe, timing advancer, etc)and both of the bikes were run at sea level under identical conditions. SO IN FLORIDA THE ZX12R RECORD STANDS!!!!!!!!!!!
