new R1 vs zx12
I have a friend that just purchased a new R1 and whants to test agains my zx12, full exaust, PC, filters, -1 on the front. bit more compresion.
I know that the 2003 model is a pig, but this new one is faster...
both riders are the same lbs

With equal weight riders and assuming similar riding abilties and willigness to run it out, your tq and being down -1 on the front you will prevail.
Just start in the right gear! The R1 is strong on the top but weak in the midrange.
My 1070 has many mods (175-178 rwhp) and is very light, but is no match for a built 1290 or 1397. I can hang for awhile and I have a sweet zone it really shines but eventually the bigger bikes cc and tq come into play and take over.
I would think the same would apply with a stock R1 and your 12

I was riding with a guy on an 05 zx10 stock, my 04 zx12 has full yosh trs with pc3 and map from dynojet "no custom map yet". We started in 3rd at about 90 by the time we hit 140 he started falling behind me at 175 he was 6 bike lengths behind me. He weighs 190 and I'm 230 no gear. I'm also down one up front, he had no chance.

Let the 10R drop a tooth in the front and start again. You won't be happy  Better yet try the same test with a 10R that is piped and tuned and you'll be at the dealer picking out the color of your new 10R. Ask me how I know this. Come on just ask

Agreed most of the time it is rider. But in the case I stated above we switched bikes and had the same outcome. It was a heart breaking day for my love afair with the 12R. Although I do still have one 12R left and probably won't part ways with it. It's still one sexy beast.

Well, all the hard work (read the topic overheat), paid itself....
When I hit 3rd gear it was bye bye to the R1, Im 170 lbs and the R1 rider is 195lbs.
Then we where riding and 3 R1 2004 tried to hang with me on long hi vel corners and the zx12r just spanks those bikes,
I think that in a real long straigt the R1 will eventualy (because of the gearing) will catch me but man has to be a real long one.
by the way a K5 raced the same R1 (is the fastest of the bunch) and the K5 is an animal in 2nd gear it just catapulted in front of the R1. Not as fast as I did but very fast.
I know that if I had a Zx10, K5 or R1 it will become faster than my zx12r, but stock trim those bikes are at the level with mine.
Any of those bikes except the RR, with proper gearing, a full exaust and tuned are very nasty.
