extended ecu
Has anyone seen a performance gain on there zx12's with this mod. How much top end would it add assuming one had the hp to pull it? For example 17-48 gearing? thanks!

It gave me 640 more rpms. the horsepower did not drop off. I would suspect degreeing the cams accordingly would give you additional hp or at least a few more bike lengths to shift into the next gear in dragracing.

The gain is extended RPM, and more useable horsepower. I have them in both of my 12Rs now, modified by Dave Owen.

SantaFe, I have a feeling that you will already know this, but, just for the sake of saying it....
I suspect that there would be a slight gain in drag-racing ET/MPH even if the dyno chart showed that HP stayed flat through the extra RPM.
By extending the shift point out, and having a higher rpm at the next gear, your avg HP and TQ in each gear should go up.
Now ya got me curious about how much extra top-end MPH this mod gives at a place like,......ooohhhh, Maxton.
Who's Dave Owen? I want this mod done too! lol!

I will be having it done also but effect in the stnading mile probably is not much I wouldn't think, as peak hp isn't extended and already the hp curve tends to be fairly flat between the point one upshifts down to, peak, and the next shift point. The big benefit of this comes where it avoids where rpm falls from the shift to a point giving well below peak hp. So that's much more important in 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, which are more important to 1/4 mile ET, than it is to speed in the standing mile. However, since acceleration is still a factor in the mile, it's not irrelevant.
However, expecting to do this and also running taller 5th and 6th will enable running 18/50 or so while being geared for 215 (excluding tire slip) and so that will make launching easier and 2nd through 4th more lively.

I certainly believe it would be a very good mod to do. I was hoping someone would chime and say something like it dropped my et by a 1/10th or it gave me a mph increase in the qtr, or when racing my buddy it added x amount of bike lengths, it gave me another 4 mph on top end etc. Its definately on my to do list.
thanks fellas

What does it usually cost to have this done? Sounds like a good mod to do over the winter months when riding time is limited.
