what to do / valves

I just got a call from the machine shop and was told my valves and seats are oblong.Should I count my losses and try and find a used head or have all new seats and valves put in?If valves, would you go oversize for a 1426?Anyone with a good A1 head?

Seats are expensive but for some reason, I do not 100% Believe the shop! Look around on all of the Boards, Have you seen this in even "1" Other case?? Take your head to some where else and let them take a look but tell the shop that you are looking at getting another head (For your bike)

I am not being mean, BUT DANG!!! I already told you that your head guy telling you to do a five angle valve job (WHEN YOU DIDN"T HAVE ANY LEAK) did not make any sense?!?!

Take it somewhere else and do a pressure check. If okay, recheck your cam clearances and save your money!

I am not trying to be mean once again.

Seats aren't tough to do if your head guy has a Serdi machine.

I'm in school in North Carolina right now but am flying home tomorrow. He'll wait to show me the valves and seat.He had already started cutting them and says it was cutting a wide path on one side and not the other.

Yes,he is a car guy,but what would be different in a bike valve job?He went out and got the correct angle cutters for the intake and exhaust. He showed me on this dial indicator that measured runout on the seat and it was all over the place. If I'm to get all new seats and s.s. valves thats about $500 plus labor.I need to do something at least with 2 of the seats as they were already cut.
Sorry Voz,don't imbibe any more and was dog tired from lack of sleep.I don't take to strange beds very good.

Nobody has yet told me the difference in valve jobs. However, this is what Lee's Performance told me.He has a cutter that cuts all 3 angles at once where the machine shop was going to do it individually.Lee's does not follow the same angles as stock which we were going to stay with. The car engine builder also had concern as to the thickness of the valve from where the last cut was made and the crown.
Lee said he would replace all the valve guides for $65 because he has had problems with the stock guides(I already have them). They do not recommend oversizing the valves because the stock ones flow enough even though they have a port job that has it.I'm not going with flowing the head,I'm only in this for fun and have more than I need for goofing around on t&t.Lee was freely giving cam specs, but thats farther than my schooling.

bike stuff is 10x tighter than car stuff.
almost like comparing John Deere and Nascar.
Not to knock car guys but they usually don't deal with
tolerances anywhere near as tight.
compare a 1270 piston kit to a 1272. you might think the 2 divided over 4 cyclinders
would be so small it don't matter. Wrong.
I know a car guy that swears he can check rod clearance by shaking it. LOL.
He trust his machine guy, a 30 under crank takes 30 bearings.
His motors seem to hold up. Try that on a bike.

Just received a call from Lee's Performance. He recommended all new exhaust valves because several are bent.I already gave him new seals and guides,so the price will be $735.It would have been more if I used stock valves as opposed to s/s.Now I'll double check, but I didn't see any marks on the pistons.Any other reason to make the valve stems bend?

All my 12 motors get SS on exhaust because the stockers break at will

I dont think I would have used Lee's.... but that is just me....

Muzzy has done a great job on valves for me...

I could have got you a brand new set of exhaust and intake SS valves to your door for 384 bucks and you could have lapped them in yourself bam good to go... sorry I did not post before...
