Coming up for air, unbelievable exhaustion....
It's been 8 days of work since I got the keys to the new house. Myself and a neighbor have been there for 10 hours a day working. We got all 4 walls down, all the interior doors out, all the old baseboard molding and window casings and door casings out, all the old carpet and padding and tack strips out. The 4 layers of luan and sheet vinyl that was his old kitchen and foyer out the old kitchen cabinets out, the old closet doors out in the house. I then had my electrician friend come over and take care of all the wiring that used to be in the walls and redesigened the wiring for the new layout and lighting that I will be installing. We then patched all the drywall from the removed walls and electrical work and have the 1st coat of mud on all of it. We have all four bedrooms and the hallways primed and painted now, haven't done any painting in the new greatroom/kitchen/dining room yet cause the drywall mudding is not yet complete. I have moved the 600 sq/ft of hardwood flooring I bought a few weeks ago over to the house and it sits in a bedroom waiting for install, which should be first part of next week, we are doing that install. Have chosen a carpet guy for installation, that will be done the day after the hardwood floors are done. Bought new interior doors for bedrooms and bathrooms, 7 total and got them all installed yesterday, that was kind of a bear cause I ripped out all the old jams and replaced them all. We've also moved over about 40 of the 70 perenial plants we are taking from the old house and planted them at the new house.
I think that's it. I haven't slept well, I haven't aten well, I have lost 7 more pounds in the last week bring my total to 37 pounds in 2 1/2 months. I feel like crap and want to disappear to an island, but I trudge on. I am in work this morning for a couple hours to get some stuff done, then I go back to the house to start installing all the new casings and baseboard moldings.
I am about 2 days ahead of schedule and very happy with the progess, just dang tired. My wife too, she has been a trooper helping with painting and ripping stuff out but mostly taking care of the girls, my parents have been over helping a bit too. It's been crazy. Move in date is set for Oct 27th then I sleep til Nov 15th, LOL
Anyway I miss all you fellas and will certainly post pictures. We couldn't find our camera for the 1st four days of work so I missed out on taking true BEFORE pictures because the walls were down the 1st day but I will post ones I have probably in a few days of 1st part of next week.

Rick, I am NOT happy about losing the 7 pounds this week, not at all. It's just that I have probably been burning 5000 calories a day and I am not eating well at all. I just keep telling myself that it's just a month, I had 30 days to get this house ready to move in, I can't let myself be stuck with 2 days left and have a weeks work still to do. So I have to do what I have to do.

Do what you gotta do bro, just try and get a meal in every now and then. I know how it is when you have a deadline and tons of work to be done. Are you going to be in the office all day?

I can only begin to imagine how you feel. I just got me a new house in April and to this day I have been working on it. Painting (87 gallons so far), hanging pictures and such, building furniture, replacing light fixtures and faucets, etc... and, to top it off this is a brand new house. I can't imagine ripping one apart to rebuild it.

Well, it's been another week and still crazy. Got a lot of stuff done but still quite a bit more to go before move in date. I will be starting on laying the 600 sq/ft of hardwood floor this evening and probably for the next 3-4 nights cause I have to be at work for most of the week. Here are just a couple pics.
This house was built in '75 and the couple who bought it new were 68 years old. He is 98 now and his wife died a couple months ago. The house has had nothing done to it in 30 years except the big stuff, new heating and AC last year, new roof this spring 05', new windows in 2002. Otherwise it was all 70's stuff, still had the original shag carpet, only one coat of paint in all rooms of the house so we decided to basically replace everything. Remember in the 70's house styles were all compartmentalized so I tore out 4 walls to open what was the living room, family room, kitchen and dining room into one giant 37'x25' "studio" living space. Here is after the walls came down, you can see where they were by looking qat the ceiling.

We were going to try to paint the kitchen cabinets after rearranging them but they are shit so we decided to just go ahead and install new Maple cabinets and granite countertops. We are not at that installation point yet but probably two weeks from now I'll be doing that.
This is the master bedroom closet that had the old style paneled cheap ass doors that covered the whole wall so I ripped them out and had to build a new wall in the center and on one end so I can install the new dual set of closet doors.

Here in Alli's room (yes it's pink and she is a 3 year old girl so if she wants it pink, it's gets painted pink), here old crappy closet doors, like all the rest in the house had to be trown out and replaced, her opening was 3" short to accomodate the new doors so I had to build out the wall a bit to go from 5' doors down to 4' doors.

Here is the ceiling after drywall is complete and primer applied. Yesterday Michelle and I finished painting the ceiling and the walls in the big room.

Out of my list of 49 things to do in 30 days I now have 34 things done. Still quite a bit to do. But these girls are worth it.
