Installing Bar Grips??

Is there a trick to putting bar grips on? The service manual says to use some sort of cement, but how do aftermarket grips slide on with a cement adhesive?

What is the trick to making the grips slide on with ease and staying stuck in their locations once they are on??

The best stuff I have found is the Pro Honda grip cement. Allsport stocks it,unless you want to go to westside, they should have it too.anyways the stock grips can be removed by slowly peeling them back and working some contact cleaner under them (electrical contact cleaner) or cut them off with a razor. In most cases you will want to remove the throttle tube from the throttle assy while the grip is still on,that way you can put a mark on the tube indicating the most amount the new grip should be slid onto the tube. Then clean all the old glue off of the tube and also the left hand clip on. green scotchbrite usually does the trick there. Now take your new grips and wash them in hot soapy water then let them dry completly. now for the glue! smear some on the whole clipon a little inside the grip helps too then slide it on working quickly to get it positioned where you want it,you can rotate it a bit to make sure the glue is spread about. The throttle side takes a little more care as you dont want any glue inside the tube. apply glue same as left side just have to get rid of any excess in the tube right after you slide the grip on. alot of times aftermartket grips are a tad longer so they need to be trimmed a bit on the throttle side because the bar end tends to hinder movement of the grip.

took them off with a razor( if for some reason you wanna keep them, you can also use an air compressor and they will come off with little work.). Sprayed some enamel paint inside the grip and slid them on. Worked like a champ.

I use hairspray as well......and if you tkae a hair dryer to the grips after you have them in place the hair spray will set up in a matter of minutes.....

Muscle them on and safety wire them. NOTHING works better. You'll notice most grips have little channels to sink the safety wire in.

Tried for years to keep my dirtbike grips from "spinning".... even used every adhesive known to man...

Yes,but now live in Post Falls, I really like Allsport the parts guys are great and the staff is top notch. I bought my CBR600F4i from them. Even after switching to Kawasaki I still go to Allsport for oil,ect..

SOme people do not have air and that does not work easily for newer grips with opened ends.

I take a small flat blade screwdriver and a can if Cheap Brake Cleaner and some Paper towels.

Put the straw on the brake cleaner and with the thin long blade screwdriver slide it under the gripabout an inch and squirt a little cleaner. With that you can then push the blade a lit farther and squirt again until the blade is all of the way through. squirt again while working the blade around and once a 360 had been made the grip slides off. Immediately spray the new grip and slide it right back on and the "Original" factory glue will dry and hold the new grip.

SOmetimes when selling the bike a person will want the original Parts. I then give them the old grips, exhaust, seat and everything (Cleans out my basement too)
