High Altitude ECU???

I live at sea level.
Every time I go up to Palomar Mountain ...above 4000 feet, my bike stalls when idling. I heard that getting the high altitude ECU put in solves this problem.

What are the plus/minus of doing this?

No effect at sea level form what I can determine...holds idle at 3000+ feet...get it...its a factory warranty fix.

I live at 4900 feet. I have the High Alt. ECU and it does solve part of the problem. I have the idle set at 1300-1400 RPM and it idles well. Below that it does not idle well. I ride between Alt. of 4000-9000 feet and it has some problems at the higher Alt.

High Altitude Ride

I've got a South of France/Pyrenees trip planned for the end of the month.

I was wondering if anyone else has any comments regards any other effects I might notice if we're traversing mountain passes up to 7000ft?

Looks like I can expect a dodgy idle with the stock ECU...

Thanks.

SR, Dad and I were at approx, 11000 ft. at Beartooth Pass and 9400 at Observation Point with no problems. Temp was probably 45 at 11000 ft. that day and 50-55 at 9400 ft. At the continental divide in Yellowstone(elev 6xxx ft.?) they were loping fairly hard at idle. Did the same thing at Logan Pass in Glacier Park, 6600 ft. Both of those days were hot, 85-90 deg. Hope this helps.

EDIT: BTW, both bikes are stock.

Hey Scooter

Hey Scooter, cool pic's.

Would you mind posting the link on zx-12r.org, or would it be o.k. if I did?

Thanks.
