Excellent Black Paint for wheels, Oil Pans and other things!
I usually use Epoxy gloss Black or Mat Black for anything that oil, Brake Cleaner or Carb cleaner will touch. Tonight I tried VTH Brake Caliper and Brake Drum paint. Said not effected by "Chemicals" and good for about 900 Degrees..
It is sort of a semi Gloss and to paint my front wheel (Remember I, well Randall bent the last on at Maxton) I used a short jack handle and a bungee with the ends on both sides and hung it up. A few wraps of Duct tape on each side to keep it from sliding and I was painting.
As soon a I got finished I took a folded paper towel soaked in brake cleaner to clean the center of the rim and only the Actual Over spray came off. It did not even dull the paint where it was on fairly well. This is serious stuff and it had not even dried hard yet. So I am glad I had masked off the area where the Brake Rotors go after cleaning the area because I would have had to use a razor Blade or something to get the paint off. It is just a little shinier than stock. looks like I used WD 40 to clean the wheel.
BTW, it also states it is not easy to chip or scratch this stuff either! I will know more on that later while I am mounting the tire

Sounds good Vince..........I used Gun Coat finish on mine and it's tough as hell as well. It stays on pistol slides after 1000's of rounds fired thru them. You do have to bake this stuff though. But NO chemical will remove it. It has to be blasted off.
Like you I've used Epoxy for this type of stuff for years. I used it to paint my case covers on the 12 and it looks factory perfect and oil won't hurt it at all. I'll get some of that stuff you used and try it on something. Actually I need to paint the calipers on the second 12 with something so I'll give this stuff a go. I powdered the other 12's calipers and it's a PITA!

AutoZone Not the Cheapest Paint, but not out of sight either at $7.95, Make sure you mask off "ANYTHING" you so not want to paint because it will not come off.
Yes, I used KalGard Gun Kote back in the late 70 and early 80's for my cylinders and cases not to mention the pipes. Stinks Like Hell 0 while baking. Sort of an dark Gray black color

If you order it direct you can get extra pigment put into it and it can be made blacker that way. Only down side to it is if you over bake it for too long a time or too high a temp it will start to change colors  Guess how I know this? NOt to fear though all you gots to do is reshoot and presto!

You would think I could get the VH in the right order (Very High Temp) Epoxy needs 48 hours and this says 2 hours touch and 24 hard dry. I usually do not get this excited over paint, but the crappy painting job and all of the work I had to do to get it off of the red wheel I bought made me aware of just how bad paint can be!

Hey, interesting thread since I need to strip and paint a wheel.
Do you use any primer before using this paint?
Did you strip it down to shiny aluminum then paint, or did you strip to aluminum then scuff it a little?
Obviously, I'm clueless on prep.

All paints are different so this is not a case of being clueless!
I used aircraft pant stripper because I had the Junky red wheel than someone had sprayed a horrible resistant to nothing Dull Black paint. I tried to use thinner and toher things but the process was too slow and the stripper took all of the paint off the edges and left the red in the middle and on the spokes. I cleaned up everything with brake cleaner and sprayed away. No sanding, No Primer, no nothing ! That is how good paint is supposed to work!
So I had Shiny Aluminum, Rough surface cast red Paint and smooth read paint. Stuck to all the same! could not get it off as soon as it was sprayed!

NO! The #1 thing I have found for exhaust (Even Chrome unsanded) is the Header Wrap Paint. SIlver or black. Very thin and about 4 to 6 coats and you can only scrape it off. Even after red hot no problem!

Header Wrap paint? As in wrap the headers and this is for painting it? Or is it just a name for a paint that goes straight on the pipes. If I end up getting a bike that happens to have an undertail exhaust I'm blacking out the pipes going up to the muffler.
