Timing adv ??
With the timing anything over stock my bike slows down what gives? I have k+n filters and a gutted cat. The bike runs 142-143 stk timing, 138-139 at 4 degrees adv, 140-141 at 2.5 degrees adv. What am I missing? Does anyone have mph gains at differnt timing settings?

Have you set the timing on a dyno? You may be going too far.
Is it a Muzzy's advancer? Each line is 5 degrees. -ZXtra

Not on a dyno just at the track. I did read and understand the directions. I try to run the bike at the same engine temp. And watch the barometer factor in my losses/gains.

Re: advancer
All bikes have different manufacturing tolerances so different bikes will make max power at different advance settings. Air fuel mixture will also affect the point at which a cylinder will start to detonate so yours may be optimal at or near the stock setting.
Mine made max power at 5 degrees advanced, but I run it at 4 to be safe.
I would recommend a dyno session. -ZXtra

Just curious....
ZXtra, what was the difference between stock and 4 and 5 degrees?

I made 2.8 HP more at 4 deg advanced and also better throttle response.
Difference between 4 and 5 was less than 1 HP. -ZXtra

I know you said you understood the directions but...which way did you turn it??? MAYBE? you retarded it???
You want the TOP of the advancer to move FORWARD, turn it CLOCKWISE to advance it...
Just making sure you are doing it right

I checked to make sure I was going the right way after I put it on set at 4 and the bike slowed down

On my last Dyno session, My 12 made 2.5 h.p. more from 8-11,750 rpm. by changing out my Muzzy advancer (set at +4 deg.) and putting the stock rotor back in. Torque was improved also thru the midrange by 2 ft. lbs !!
