Just saw the shuttle go up

Standing in my front yard watching it lift off is AWESOME,it was so clear this morning you would think, you could reach out and touch it. The fireball behind it seems like a hundred miles long and the roar of the engines is like WOW.

But on the TV....

I got up this morning and started watching the NASA channel about two hours beforehand. Also had feeds on the computer. NOTHING like seeing it in person. When I lived in Florida, I never saw a Shuttle launch. I did see a few night launches of "secret" satellites though.

I remember as a kid, school would stop so we could go down to the auditorium to watch a launch. Or my Mom would let me stay home and watch it on our TV.

It is not important to most people, they just take it for granted. Too bad.

Glad y'all enjoyed it. When we have problems, it's in all the papers, but when we have successful launches nobody seems to notice.

They could launch one every day and I'd watch every one like it was the 1st.

I'd like to see one up close (not too close though)

I've seen the launch from outside where I work in N. Fla. saw it going up and then saw the booster rockets seperate and fall. I feel like dave.I think they're cool!

I love launches!

I would love to see a shuttle launch!

First time we were in Florida, we did the space center tour and there was a shuttle on the launch pad. Very impressive!

Next time we went to Florida, we did the space center tour again (because we brought my 9 year old daughter). We got lucky that time and did see an Atlas launch at night. Smaller rocket but our first launch and at night it was awesome! I was most happy that my daughter saw it.

...always have wanted to see a launch of anything...but the Cape is 3000 miles away....sniff

During the cold war saw a few night launches of ICBM's & spy sats inserted into orbit from Vandenburg in So. CA... they enter orbit just as they pass SF Bay on the Northern pole route over the ocean. Wild guess must be @ least 100 miles up as they pass by here...

@ night leaves a weird green glow in the sky that lasts about 20 minutes or so. Burnt fuel in sunlight? Haven't seen any lately...usually foggy, & they never announce launches from Vandenburg AFB...
