22K miles
It is just amazing that this '03 runs this hard and this strong with 22,000 miles. It pulls harder todday than I think it ever has...simply amazing.

especially two strokes!!
But seriously four strokes tend to gain horse power but lose torque as they get older!

Wait till You get to the 55k miles like me and You can't hold to it But really usually in the long term test in the magazines bikes make more HP:s and top end after even 50k km (32k miles) than after 5k km(3.5k miles)!

The last 12 I did had about 23K on it and had never been done and the majority of the exhaust were really, really tight.
It should be noted this bike is regularly dragged race and has been in the 9's more than once (this is Outsiders bike).
Out of the four twelves I have done the valves on this summer, none were in trouble but Outsiders was definitely ready for adjustment.
I have the procedure (pics and gotchas to supplement the manual) just about finished on doing the valve adjustment. I'd be more than happy to shoot you a copy when I'm done L2M.

is the 12 a shim under bucket setup? i hate adjusting these type. taking the cams out andputting back in is a pain in the booty.
if it makes anyone feel better the yzf was still at the loose end of the spec at 60k miles

Yes. Shim under bucket.
Yamahas are known for staying tight and not getting out of clearance much.
If (emphasize "if") you know the gotcha's, the 12 isn't too bad to do. I should stress it is not a job for somebody who is not fairly mechanically inclined.
Its really easy to screw the pooch if you are careless, ham-fisted or sloppy doing the valves.
