Is anyone really ignoring the idea that Dale was hacked? Its no secret that about 3-4 people here were upset enough and capable enough to take down .org after tha last big hub-bub. Its just like the group of people we're talking about to perform their teenager BS

Hope you're all happy.

Well that's weird.
I posted on Dale's site at 04:30 THIS MORNING.
Post counts were correct and everything.
Now I'm getting the same message that everyone is seeing now.
Weird. I don't think Dale's pulling the plug, otherwise it wouldn't be up and down, up and down. It must just be a MAJOR FUBAR with the software. Hopefully they'll get it straightened out. I'm sure he doesn't like being down any more than we do.

Dale is more bazaar than any of you are aware of, I've been watching him very closely, I have had 20 or pms with him, believe it or not, and with the specific purpose of uncovering the real Dale. "Wooaha"

So far it has been very troubling, unlike Mike (Go 200) who I gave a perfect Psyche score to, a rock!!, that little fucker, where is he I miss em, anyways I digress,

Back to Dale, put yourself in his position, you decided to pull the plug, look,, it's like breaking up a relationship, you want to let them down slowly.

It's phpBB. I know, but I don't care.

Speed is always relative to what you're runing on. If you're running out of your house and your server is also your coffee table then expect some problems.

The code is solid enough if maintained right and has some good features not found here. I've run it on my site, 100% up for 4+ years. I have a Vb license and plan to migrate, but I'm trying to justify the time to do it right now.

Tainui... that's a bunch of crap.... I don't beleive ANYONE would do that... I can't speak for
anyone else, but I LOVED that forum... I left because of Dale, but I'd never do anything
to hurt that group of guys over there...

I know he won't ask, but I'd HELP Dale get the site up if he asked... I'm not sure what
he's running for an operating system, but long ago I was trying to logon, and I noticed
that the message was concerning improper permissions...

If he's running Unix, a simple fix for that would be chmod, and set the permissions for
those file or directory. And he should run chown as well, to set the owners of the files and
directories...

But for what I've read, he was moving the site to a new server, and that's where his problems are coming from...

Low blow Tainui...

What's the world coming to?

They let Morgan sell orange Juice?, that's to advanced for him, they should have started him out with making the ice cubes first and work his way up to pouring it into a glass later.

It's not up, but he still has a permisssions problem.... and if he even uses standard
protocol, he can't be hacked...unless he's really sloppy and leaves ports wide open
on his server...

You guys watch too many movies....

From the site before it just went down again:

"Technically the site isn't up yet, but it is close.

It has been a long haul.

So I am sure you are wondering what happened, I have heard lots of interesting rumours and theories that apparently are being hosted on other boards

So here is the story.

While I was away on vacation in August when the server first went down, it was Hacked by someone. They destroyed the OS and the server needed to be built up from scratch, it took awhile to recover the data.

Well... on Sept 2/05 the server was hacked again by someone.

ZX-12R.org has never been hacked since it was started over 5 years ago until the last few weeks.

On Sept 2 when the server hacked again, it also happened that my server company changed hands. The new company Vortech Hosting, offers almost zero support. They did confirm they backed up the data , however the next day the managed to overwrite the data and lose the site. They ended up restoring a 1 year old backup. When I saw the old files I shut down the forum so people could not post to something that was going to be deleted.

I was getting no help from Vortech hosting, just screw ups and them taking no responsibility for it. And asking for major $$ for everything they did.
I moved to a new hosting company that costs a lot more, however it is fully managed and is on a faster machine which 3x as much bandwidth and 2x as much server space.
What this means is that if the site goes down again in the future they will automatically get it back up and running asap using a daily, weekly or monthly backup depending on what the problem was.

Contrary to some of the rumours, ZX-12R.org stopped being hosted in my house 5 years ago. It has been on a dedicated server for years with a fiber connection to the net. Unlike many other bike sites, ZX-12R.org has far to much traffic and bandwidth for shared hosting. I have had to be on a dedicated server for years now. The dedicated server has extra hassles associated with it unfortunately. However those hassles are gone now which is awesome (of course it costs more, but I think for the piece of mind it is worth it).

The forum should be up and running by the end of today.

Thanks for hanging in there,

Dale"

Thanks for the update Dale! Glad ya didn't "pull the plug"!!! Been missing the folks who haven't made this their second home.
Sucks that ya got hacked. I'd bet it wasn't anybody associated with either site.

Somebody needs to teach Dale how to do his own backup of his site to his OWN
server... that's like 3rd grade work... That way he can do a restore to his hosting server from
his own PC in case the hosting service loses his data...

Just from reading his post shows me he dosn't know DICK about running a site, and
honestly, shouldn't be running one with such little expertise... And if he has no clue how
to backup his own site... I guarantee he has no clue how to make his site SECURE from
hackers...

I hope none of you guys used a credit card to buy stuff from him....
