Just understand this... the ONLY people who should get cash "donations" from members are the sponsors... without them this site wouldnt exist. Visit their stores or websites and purchase their products. You know they wouldnt be a sponsor if they couldnt back their products online in this environment.

Look.... it's only 1 of two models... Pay-per-view or just plain old TV... if there are ads is plain old TV.. if it's pay-per-view then you gots ta pay... but the two should never meet..

He setup an account and asked for them....through paypal... hey, if that's what he had
to do to keep the site up, so be it... I know some of his advertisers were not paying...
Honestly, I didn't have a problem with it... the site gave me alot back so to make a donation
was no problem. But then to insult the US over and over, along with myself and others,
well, enough was enough.
I have some good friends there... not sure why they are staying... I guess they had some
issues over here as well. Can't please everyone.

insulting the US and friendships etc have nothing to do with my point (which is kinda off topic fer this thread... but hey... who doesnt love a threadjack)...
If you have advertisers, then you dont take donations...
that's all..
you wont see use jack members fer cash here (and that's what it is IMHO.. you wont convince me of it being something else... so dont even bother trying)..
it'll only be one or the other option I mentioned...
the ONLY way you could justify "charging" a member for $$ was to offer some sort of a value added service... ie: an email account, or some benefit to the member... larger avatar or something ...
if Dale did that, then I retract what I said...
if he didnt and just plain outright asked fer donations, then you might as well have given yer hard earned money to the Nigerians...
you just feel better about it cuz there's a "sense of community" involved.
BTW.. this is the first time I have ever heard of this, and it's the first time I've ever spoken on the subject, so bear with me...
I have to add that I am blown away by the whole concept and cant believe that it would happen...
just not my value set.. that's all.

Actually -- despite being deliberately run off his site, deliberately insulted with what he absolutely knew was going to be "over the line," and deliberately instructed to not post on his site again, all this after only very shortly previously calling me a "friend," and despite a continuing policy of lying about the matter and continuing to falsely paint me and others as "racists" -- I have to stand up for Dale on this one, the matter of the donations.
It's voluntary. There was never the slightest pressure of any kind whatsoever. In fact there was a pretty strong disclaimer that his desire was that the site be self-supporting from ads, no one need donate, but if anyone did want to here was a means to do so.
If he made a profit at all I doubt it was a buck an hour for his time, more likely pennies per hour, and more likely yet, still taking a loss.
I donated to his site but even given his behavior and what his character has revealed to be, I don't regret the donation. I had a value received well in excess of what was donated, though it's true that if a large number of members donated the same he'd have been somewhat in high cotton. But, I doubt that a large number did.
I understand your point Fish and I admire your principles. But I don't myself think Dale did anything wrong on this one. OTHER shit, yeah, but not this one.

Fish, my point, and not to jack your thread was that asking for the donation WASN'T
the reason a bunch of us left...
Tren explained it much better... it was voluntary, but Tren, that's what a donation is
If he required us to pay, then it would not have been a donation...
