Radiator Screens

Has anybody found or came up with a decent way to screen the radiator on the 12?

I'm putting on a new radiator, and as we all know its next to impossible to keep the radiator in decent shape.

I have been thinking about fabricating a screen using something like this:

Any thoughts?

64 bucks is about what it cost me to have a radiator shop put in 6 dollars worth of epoxy after something punctured my radiator at high speed last month. If you don't have one of these buy one quick. Or take a class and learn how to weld aluminum because I will need your help when the epoxy falls out of my radiator next week.

You can fix your own radiator with a 20 bottle torch and solder, availabel at walmart .
I've repaired many over the years like this.

bump.. i really wanna know what the technique is for soldering a rad!

there's gotta be a bette rfin straightener comb too. the standard 6 sided plastic one i got was useless. need something that works frmo the backside where the fins are still straight. well, what i need is a new rad, but i dont see that coming cheap.

Freek - I know I havent uncovered the holy grail for combing the 12 radiator - I wish somebody knew of some tool I can't find.

What I have found is regular combs don't work worth a crap because of the way the fins and cross slats meet flush.

You can't comb them out like a regular auto radiator.

What I resorted to was various sizes of zip ties and massaging the bends out from the back of the radiator to the front. They come out nicely but its a very time consuming process.

Thats why I jumped all over the grill for my new $538 radiator. I want to do everything I can to keep junk from hitting it.

Not sure what they look like (specific to the industry). I am talking about this:

http://www.eastwood.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=2071&itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&keyword=radiator+comb

Just doesn't work on the 12 due to the -->

v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^
^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v

layout of the fins.

I've never seen one quite like that. The one's we used were more individuale depending upon the amount of fin's per inch. Spray a little water on the area your working on it will make the comb easier to pull. Sometimes if they area is real deep use a small pocket knife to get them open/started.

same comb i got, but not a short enough pitch to fit even. i think the 12's rad must be 16+ fins per inch. what we need is something similar to that tool but with straight teeth at least an inch long to go right thru the rad from the straight (back) side. i actually saw something like that, but it was an adjustable width deal that, by nature of its design, couldnt fully straighten the fins, just get them started. i may just have to end up going the zip tie route, tho i'm scared how long tha twill take me. plus the fins seem to break/crumble super easy.
