Cleaning the Screen and Oil Pan
Some of us that do not drag race have never taken the oil Pan off. It might be a good Idea to take the pan down and clean the Pan and Oil Pick up Screen at least once a Year. This is what I got out of mine when I changed Oil Pans. It may not look like much, but it was enough to keep the oil in the pick up until I pulled it down.

yummy.
mine had just a few specs in it, mostly gasket maker. (at 37k)
nothing metallic though.
i hope the zx12 strainer and pickup are easier to remove than the yzf600 ones...

I do not know? I saw the stuff in there and it was HOLDING the Oil on the screen and I used Brake cleaner to spray all of this out. I would say that 30 to 40% of the screen was blocked even if slightly. I will be doing this a "LOT" More

HEy Vincent - I've never had mine off (2000 model with 11000 miles on the clock). Seems like this may be a good thing to do this year. How hard was it?

After draining the Oil, remove the sight Glass 2 bolts and then remove all of the bolts around the pan and it comes down off of 2 Dowel Pins. Have a new Base Pan Gasket and a few cans of DeChlorinated Brake Cleaner and some paper towels and you are in business

I would inspect the Oil Pump Rotor. I would be willing to bet it is nicked up.
Cheap and easy to replace.

It's a good Idea to drop the pan at first watever your milage and check whats all in there. The first time I dropped my Z1 pan back in 74 found three steel staples as in paper staples, and aluminun chips from the machining process. been checking pans on any bike I buy ever since. After that with todays smaller clutches probably not a bad idea to do it whenever you have to change your clutch.

You have to drop the exhaust if you aren't running a sidewinder.

I can believe that! Score another one for having a Sidewinder! I thought it "May" Come down far enough to clear the Pins but now realized that there are "other" things in the way

Damn good idea Vince.
I've never dropped the pan on mine but at 14K miles and since I've got the bike torn completely apart I might as well hit this too. ;-)
