well i finally got a decent run on my 12. WTF it only toped out at 175 MPH!is this about right for a stock 12?i was hoping a little closer to the 'BUSA 181 MPH since the 2000 model is not supposed to be restricted.any comments or advice will appreciated.oh the tac. was still dialing only 11,200 not quite red line but not much left.

my 12 would only turn 176 on a DYNO, it was down one tooth in the front.....Speedo would indicate more than 200 MPH at the time...

What were the conditions? Temperature? Altitude? You are not going to go as fast in the high desert at noon in the summer as you will on the coast at dawn. Also a 5 mph tailwind vs a 5 mph headwind can make a big difference.

You really need to tuck in at that speed. Knees, elbows. helmet. After you shift into sixth you don't need your left hand out on the handlebar anymore. Tuck it inside and hold on to the fork or triple clamp. Also removing your mirrors and turnsignals will make a difference. Remember drag increases by the square of your speed i.e. there is 9 times as much drag at 180 than at 60mph.

How many miles do you have on your bike? Maybe its just tired.

BTW I have a friend who swears his airplane goes faster after he waxes it and it only does 130

On my Y2000 12, 11200rpm indicated = 10700+/- real (measured w/a Fluke)

10700rpm real with 18/46 = approx 175mph (pn gps)

hmmmmmmmmmm

sunny just before sunset/95 degrees/2950' above sea level/about 8 MPH tail wind/funny you mention the wax 'cuz i waxed mine just before i left the house.drag was not a problem since it was still climbing but i let off since i could not see over an 1/8 mile anymore(not enough time to stop if i had to)oh yeah its a candy red 2000 model and the blinkers have been taken.what is the stock gearig for this bike?will the bike loose speed on the dyno because of the ram-air?what is HP supposed to read?oh and this bike has 24 freakin thousand miles so it might be a little tired LOL

2950' above sea level

That explains some of it. Drop down a few thousand feet (namely 3,000) and I think those top speed numbers might be "slightly" higher.

You meant 'Busa at 186MPH not 181 right? Because I know I have been on it at those speeds, according to my 2650 Garmin GPS...

my 12 was dropped one tooth in the front, and pulled all the way to the limiter....my 02 still had the limiter in it.....and I never corrected the speedo either.....it was plenty fast enough for me....lol

it pulled 181 hp on a DJ 250 in Jacksonville FL......

Using this air density calculator http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_hp_dp.htm with 95 F, 2950 ft. and guessing on the Altimeter Setting (29.95) and Dew Point (40) it comes up with a relative horsepower of 88% and a Dyno correction factor of 1.136.

In other words for every 100 horsepower you were making you would of been able to make 113 at sea level. You were just too hot and high

no i meant 181MPH i ride amongst three other '04 (stock) busas which i failed to mention and the best they can do is 181MPH.now theres is another with degreed cams and full exhaust that pulls 186MPH and another with 1510CC bore and all that other $$$ and it pulls a 205MPH.but for now i just want a base line before i start tweaking on it.

You said it Yourself - You backed it up before You were at the top speed. It takes lot of road to get the last few MPH. And the altitude dosen't help either. All small things add up. When was it serviced, tire pressures, chain slac and lube, etc. And at 21k miles I wouldn't call it tired. Usually in the long term test in the magazines bikes make more HP after 50k km (32k miles) than they did after 5k km! And especially they usually have little better top end because things have loosened a little bit.

Sounds like this is what you really need.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=lake+crescent+wa&ll=48.052382,-124.190483&spn=0.103559,0.238094&t=h&hl=en

5 miles of straight, level, unpopulated, seldom patrolled highway.

Its even a speedometer test zone so it has those big 1 mile, 2mile, etc signs posted along it.

Back in 2000, I tested my 12. I had Paul Dean from cycle world come out with their calibrated gun. My stock 12 with mirrors and all went 184 mph. Tach read 11,000 rpm and NO MORE! Tach error on my bike was found to be 700 rpm. So I was running at peak power (155) @ 10, 300. I had brand new BT010's on it at the time.

I did a second run on the 3 mile strech of road IN 5th GEAR! It went 179 mph and the tach STILL sat at 11,000 rpm and NO MORE! Never hit the rev. limiter.

Temp that a.m. was in the 70's and elevation was 1,100 ft.

I also don't feel that the "stock" ram air helped much due to all the leaks in the system. If it was all sealed up perfect I might have picked up 3-4 mph tops!

Now, the same bike with a pipe and map, one year later, fresh set of tires and everything else stock, I went 196 mph!

To this day, I still kick myself for not realizing that my ram air leaked so HORRIBLY!! I could have realized the full 8% benefit on top of the 173 h.p. that I had at the time. MAYBE I could have got 198-200.........Maybe.

You are now exiting the internet...where all bikes eclipse 200mph with ease in stock form.

Real life is an eye opener eh?

Always easy to tell apart those that have actually done it....rather than talked about what they read somewhere...or what it "should" do.

That said....I have no doubt you could get more MPH out of it with little or no work to the bike itself.

Riding up top takes alot more skill and concentration than one would imagine...which is also why its safe to say that "anyone can just twist the throttle and go 200".....has never even come close.

My 04 'Busa just has:
Airbox mod
K&N
Yoshi RS3 Race
PCIII
Dyno's at 168.5 HP and 103 TQ

It did 186 more than a few times (Garmin GPS Speed)....I weigh about 210, so its strange that the other machines don't hit that 186 mark! Even my 10R hits 186...and thats bone stock. Maybe tire pressure to low or biggger than stock windsheld?
