Help! Bolt Stripped! (warning explicits to follow) FUCK FUCK FUCKITY FUCK FUCK FUCK!
What a great day to ride in Northern Jersey today - best day all year... BUT... went to check on my K&N filters (to make sure that no crap was getting by them) AND... when I put my seat back on - I stipped one of the little seat nut thing - not the bolt - the nut. SHIIIIIT. Anyone have any advice? It looks like the bolt is set into the frame (not good). The other one is OK - so I won't kill myself - but what the HELL am I going to do? I don't think a helicoil is a great idea for the seat - I'll be taking it on and off too much. AAAAARRRRGGHHH.

Never installed one actually - how is it done? Do I have to drill the existing threads out. DAMNIT. I can't believe I did that - WAIT I take it back - I can believe it ... I'm such a dick brain.

helicoil yes you have to drill out the striped hole then tap it with tap for size helicoil then using the tool supplied with helicoil put the helicoil in

I just went and looked at mine and I don't believe you're going to be able to put a heli-coil in it as it's a riv-nut type insert.If you can find a riv-nut the right size you still have the problem of removing the old on as it will just spin if you try to drill it.Find something to clamp on it or wedge against it to prevent it from spinning.You could remove it and use a nut or fabricate a rectangular plate that is drilled and tapped that would fit in the channel.I've never seen a metric nut plate but if there are such things ,you could rivet one in but it would require the skills to do that kind of thing.I mean no insult in what I just said.I am good at some things and some things I am NOT good at.You do have access but it's not easy access to the underside of the seat attach points.If you were located in my area I could help you.

greeeeaat. Figures I would bust the one megahardtofix-superbitchmonster-novicewrenchbuster bolt on the bike. Anyone else have any other ideas? Should I give in and take it to the dealer?

Determine what size metric threads you are dealing with and call around to try and find riv-nut inserts the correct size.They come with a bolt and spacer for installation sometimes.

uh, why not just drill the fukker out and put a nut & bolt in the hole??? You are talking of the 2 bolts which hold down the rear of the seat under the passenger seat/cowl????

HEH - yeah DDPETE - been to the mall a TON of times. Raced a bit too - wish they had some GP bikes to race - with the same "virtual reality" type stuff. .

Just go to the parts store and ask for a blind nut kit
it looks like a big rivit gun with threded inserts.
Just drill the old blind nut out and install a new one.
The kit costs about 45.00 or so.
If you canot find one I can get the part # for you.

If the bike's still under warranty, take it to the dealer! Most of the time, riv nuts loosen up and spin in place. Make sure that you've actually stripped it out, and it's not just spinning around before you drill! If it's just loosened up, the dealer can tighten it back up for ya...
PS: I've had two of the fuckers loosen up on me, both times the dealer was able to fix them.

I believe there used to be, in the past, a post about a kit Kawasaki had for the rivet-nuts that kept turning when bolting on the plastic tail-section. Perhaps a kit is available for this! Me, I'd just drill the rivet-nut out and use a nut & bolt now and fix it right this winter.
