OH Oh My ECU Really is BAD!!

Most of you know that I had some type of electrical problem with my fuel pump at Maxton. I finally bypassed the the ecu and ran a wire directly to the pump to make the bike run.

For the last 2 week ends I have been looking for the short. Today I finished every test possible and I do not like the results of the tests. I can jump the Pump Relay and mak the pump run also but no power to the relay from the ECU.

After checking all of the grounds to the ECU and ALL of the power sources and they ALL checked out correctly. The problem with this is each time they checked out the Book says "REPLACE THE ECU"

I do not want to have to replace the ECU! That cost waay too much money Tomorrow I will have Randall let me know what the Damage is and then go out and Rob a Bank (or a rich Republican ) At Mikey would say, "This SUCKS" Big time!

See last post!

My Bike is a 2000 and I already got Kawasaki to replace the Stator Assembly and extend my warranty in April 2004 for several months so a "Year" Later even for me is "Pushing" it just a little

Also only a 2000 fits, even a 2001 is different.

How much do you want for your bad ECU?

I've been looking for one to take apart to see if they are re-programmable but didn't want to buy a new one just to possibly destroy it.

If it turns out that mine is bad (As soon as I get one to check it) you can have it Cheap! Possibly no more than shipping and you let me know what you find!)

Who is "5-O" Sounds like the "Police"

Just looked at E-Bay and nothing. Called Randall and he knew the answer before I asked the question about $600 his price and he is looking at a few Salvage yards for me!!

Sounds like a deal to me.

I've posted about this several times over the years. There is a lot of evidence that the ECU is reprogrammable including several lines that run from the diagnostic plug to the ECU labled 'Memory Input'. But to hack it will require taking one apart.

Of course I really can't afford to blow $600 bucks on a hunch. An ECU like yours that is mostly functional except for some small failure that makes it unusable in the bike is a perfect candidate.

Of course I will share what I find with you and anyone else who wants to know...besides I'm in it for the glory, not money

Besides there would be copyright issues if I charged for downloading the Kawasaki maps / software, modifying then and then uploading it back into the ECU . As an End User though the bike owner can do what ever .

We will all know in a few days. Since I think is is less likely to cause a problem to put a bad ECU on a good bike as opposed to putting a good ecu on a bad bike, I am sending my ECU to Dr. Dan and he will see if it works. Man 0 man do I have mixed enotions. On one side I hope that this is the problem because then I will know what happened. Then on the otherside I hope it is not because they are so expensive and then what made mine go bad? and "Will it happen again"??

The only thing wrong is the fact that my pump will not turn on for 3 seconds. I can get the pump to work several ways except just turning the switch!

Hey Vin...Im not being a wise guy, but why not buy a brand new 12 and just put a pipe on it...Then you wont have to do any work on it, as there will be no problems with it...

Dude, every week you have a new problem with your 2000...Just buy a new 12 and have fun riding!!!

Serious answers are several. #1 I have a bike to "Ride" and this is for Racing Only. Saying that, #2 the 02 or later is not as Aerodynamic as the 00 or 01. #3, I have done a "LOT" Of Experiments on this bike and some worked and some did not and there is nothing having a new bike would cure.

Think about it, would a Brand New bike have not bent the rim hitting a hole at 190? Could I Spray a 150 SHot on a Brand New Bike and not blow us something? Understand that I am not just trying to go fast, but record setting fast using my ideas to do it. WHen you get to my age, you have come up with a lot of ideas over a life time and it you do not try them now, then you will never do it! It takes time and patience which I have both of. Randall and I have both been 199+ in the Standing Mile on this bike, I do not think a New ZX12 R even with a lot of work will go that fast and I am looking for 220 MPH. Last, I am doing everything with a Severely limited pocket Book which is possibly "MY" #1 problem. It cost me close to $60,000 to settle my Mom's estate and I have spent that much and more on my Medical Mal-Pratice law Suit. Now imagine a poor person spending that kind of money plus the normal Bills and race ALL IN THE LAST "2" Years :o

MM, Thanks as Always, But like I thought , I do have another Pipe
