Why my 12 never made it to Laguna... Back in April, I made a post about a lady in an SUV hitting me while riding my 12. Needless to say, I had the ole bike eventually fixed back up. Then about 3 weeks ago, I hit a deer while riding my 12. It literally destroyed the entire front of my motorcycle and then some. I had the 12 fixed after a HUGE order from ronayers.com, and I worked on that motorcycle into the wee hours of the morning a few days ago. I was finished at 1 in the morning, bike better than new and ready to rock n roll. My plan was to leave in the morning and meet the bikeland crowd at Dino's place in Oregon.
So off I went off very little sleep, and when I made it to the TriCities, I discovered the unthinkable. The bearings in my rear wheel gave out and everything in the rear sprocket-side hub was destroyed. It broke all off and the 6 bolts coming out of the rear sprocket annihalated my swingarm past any point of structural integrity.
So I had the 12 picked up and driven back home which was a few hours away. With Laguna in a few days, I have finally settled with the idea that I wont be going. A friend is stopping by tomorrow to buy my tickets and paddock pass, and now I wait to rebuild that entire rear wheel, swingarm, chain, sprockets, hub, rear axle, and everything in between.
Sad, sad, sad. This 12 is turning into a huge money pit! I will be hard pressed to have the bike ready for the Seattle 100 now (sigh).

My saga got worse by two more notches today. I had everything rebuilt and sealed bearings installed in the wheel, rear sprocket hub assembly, everything good to go. Last two parts needed are the chain and the swingarm.
Chain - Won one on ebay, received it today in the mail, but it was an empty box. No joke! First time I've ever been burnt on ebay. Guy did a prepaid shipping label for 6lbs5oz and shipped an empty box. So I'm working on recourse for that...
Swingarm - Finally located one. I talked to him on the phone, he said it was off a brand new 2004 ZX-12R that was just wrecked, but the swingarm was black and in excellent mint condition. He shipped it out over a week late, and it arrived today. The swingarm was silver not black, and it came off a 2000 model which doesnt fit mine obviously. I could have cared less about the color at this point, I just need my 12 up and running, but nope it wont work cause its off a 1st gen and I own a 2nd gen 12. So recourse on that now...

...I thought it was the same arm just braced differently, ie. 2000 fully boxed at the shock mounting area vs 2003 "bridged" at the shock mounting area for more controlled "flex"...XL, care to comment?

yeah, now I'm curious too...comparing them, they definitely look different, especially with the back portion of the swingarm when I compared them...

quote:Nope, the second gen had the pivot point lowered as compared to the first gen
...but isn't the pivot point dictated by where the swingarm is attached to the frame and not by the swingarm itself?
