Jiffy Lube offering motorcycle oil changes.....lol I heard something about this awhile back, but in Jacksonville, FL. Jiffy Lube is now offering motorcycle oil changes for $34.99.
I cant wait for the first lawsuit when some Jiffy dink leaves a drain plug loose or forgets to tighten the oil filter and someone goes down due to their incompetence. What about bikes that need their fairings removed? Or headers shifter over to access the filter? This is funny. I should bring one of my older bikes there with a welded drain plug and watch them struggle to get it off...lol. Wheres my camera??? hehe
Who would go there?? Its kinda scarey!! :
Is the motorcycle *oil changing racket* that competitive that we have these quick lube places trying to get in on some of this action??

Here's the q:
How many people would take a bike to a REPUTABLE shop (obviously not a dealership!) that could change their oil, dispose of the old oil and filter, and have the bike back to the customer in say, 30 - 45 minutes? And do that for the aforementioned $35? Reason I'm asking is because I've seen lots of riders get exasperated at the dealer when they find out they have to wait two weeks just for an oil change. And leave the bike there all day...

I did some quick figuring on my oil change costs.
Filter (with shipping added) ~$10
Oil (Mobil 1 $3.99 quart x 3) $13
Plug washer $.50 each
Approximate labor is 45mins start to finish.
@ $50/hr (average shop rate) = $37.50
My oil change would be $61 per interval.(at a minimum)
Granted not everyone is going to use synthetic oil, but that would only subtract $6 from the overall total. Then of course you could use a replacement filter , which might subtract $5-6 from the overall total.
SO if you (or a decent shop) could change my oil for $34.99...hell yeah Id do it!

I can't understand why someone can't change their own oil...?
Would YOU be willing to let some teenager pull your fairing apart to get at the oil filter? NOT!!!

Ah, but does it really take that much? If a shop was to use a drip pan, and just remove the inner fairing panel on one side, that's only four screws (two for the inner panel, one for the lower fairing and the center holding the two inners together) The drain plug is accessible without taking the fairing off, so conceivably, a person could change the oil without removing anything except one inner fairing panel.

you have to remove part of the fairing to replace the filter, and if they break one of those little bitty tiny tabs, you are screwed
of course you wont find that out till you are doing about 70mph and your fairing starts banging and wailing
then you have to go back ane PROVE they did it
either i do it or someone i know that can, but no way jiffylube
so far for my two cents

I can see it now.......... There is no way I'd let a Jiffy Lube, or anyone else do my oil changes. I'd just rather do them myself that way I know it was done right. It's the same reason that EVERYTHING that's been done to my bike has been done by me, even the tank recall. I know there may come a day when I have a problem that I cannot figure out, or don't want to tackle. But it will have to be some major shit wrong before I let anybody else "Lay Hands" upon Lil' Red. I'm just too fucking picky. ____________

Dave, OBVIOUSLY some teenager designed those damn fasteners!

Yeah really. Too bad the "Big 4" in Japan couldn't catch a clue & just go to "Zuse" (sp?) type fasteners. 1/4 turn, 1/2 turn removal w/screwdriver....
I bought a bunch of these ZX12R cheezy things (as they kept falling off), & @ only $1.50 apiece they aren't expensive. BUT I'd gladly pay & extra $100+ on a $12.5K bike to have a good, speedy removal, reliable fastener throughout the bike.
Get a clue KAW, SUZ, HON, YAM..... HELLO....hello.....echo...
