gear problems
ok, guys and gals
i guess this is the best place to vent
as some of you may remember, i got my '01 jan 16, 2002, today i turned 1600 miles
for about the third time (about once a week) when i sit at a light, it wont go into neutral
or it goes into neutral, but the light doesnt come on
after a few panic kicks (changes) it works ok, but its scary when it happens
today, i was at the gas station, stopped, filled up, and then it wouldnt go into neutral, up down, i even tried sideways, then it was in neutral (i know because i let out the clutch) but no light
i asked the guy at a kawa dealer in bergen, nj, he told me i had a heavy foot
i aint necessarily buying that, unless you guys tell me otherwise

Stranger than fiction...
Are we living in a parallel universe? Kawasaki makes the slowest of something (cruiser) Harley makes the fastest (?) and now a Kawasaki that WILL NOT go into neutral at every chance.

Okay, the 12 has a positive neutral finder. If the light doesn't come on sometimes the shift drum is out of position and even though the bike seems to be in neutral it is not.
A couple of questions.
When you come to a complete stop and you pull up on the shifter does it go into second? Or does it stay in first? Does the lever seem sticky? Does the lever not want to return to center when you push it up or down? I could fix this thing in about 1 minute if I could feel it myself.

ok, lemme see if i can describe it better
as i get to a light, i downshift from whatever to first, way before the light, so i am not sitting at the light jamming the gears, five at a time
then after it is all the way down, i click up once, and sometimes (not all of the time) the neutral light doesnt come on
today, while i was out, being that i was being a little more mindful of it, i waited and after about 10 seconds the light came on, and all was good
but if the light doesnt come on, its still in neutral, because when i release the clutch the bike doesnt move, but if the light is off, and i put down the kickstand, the bike cuts off as if it was in gear, even though it isnt
thats about all i can say about it for now, thanks for the input
