Just bought 2001 ZX12R,couple of ??
Hi,i've gone over to the other side(I had a Busa :-))and i've got a couple of questions.Number one, after having the Busa the Radiator fan seems to come on really early?Even just after normal riding(i.e not wringing its neck)do they tend to come on quite early, temp gauge is just above the middle and im in tropical Scotland lol.Second questions is about the tranny/gearbox.It feels different to any other bike i've had,it just seems to go into gear,no click, clunk anything, its weird! Is that common,is that just the way they are?I just seems to move my foot up and im in the next gear. The only thing that niggles me about the bike so far is the painted rear seat cover thingy,im 6ft 3 and it digs right into my ass,so i took off the painted cover, slipped the passenger seat out and this painted cover has marked the seat pod badly, right through to the primer!Seems a bad design to me.Apart from that so far so good.

Good to have You here, but the things that are "annoying" to You sound little weird because usually people are complaining the opposite, ie fan coming on too late and tranny being clunky. I think that everybody would want a smooth tranny without clunks? If the fan comes on just abowe the middle it is OK and good. Maybe it shows that the Busas tranny just isin't as good as the Kwak..

How many miles? Cooling system ever been serviced? My fan rarely comes on; excepting hot days & in town riding. If I keep the wind going thru the radiator, it doesn't run at all. Since I added the Muzzy aluminum fan, & then added some Redline "Water Wetter," it runs even cooler, & the fan runs less for a shorter time duration.
Be happy w/the smoother gearbox. I notice mine while upshifting thru the gears has to be one of the best gearboxes I've ever had....just waaaa snick, waaaa, snick, waaaaaaaaa. It shifts really smoothly & barely preceptable (noticed w/I first got bike- forgot about it until you mention it.) All i can say is .....coool.
I'm 6'3" myself & I removed the seat cowl since it was new. It's just easier to swing my leg over without dinging the cowl w/the boot leaving a black mark on the cowl. I'll put it back on someday as it looks better w/the cowl on, but only when going posing... :P

I'd love to know why you asked that,i feel you think why come from a Busa to a ZX :-)There's a dozen reasons from personal circumstances right through to mmm,i fancy a change.I even got all the "Oh you think more of that bike than you do of me", so i sold it,then i bought this bike to prove,"Yes,i do think more of bikes than i do of you!" lol .Wasn't really down to faults with the Busa, thing that swung it was one came up at a great price locally and i read a review of one being tested(unrestricted ZX12r like mine)and he said that he was on a German Autobahn and got the fright of his life when he looked at his Speedometer and it registered 190mph,and he had just shifted into 6th gear :-)Probably bull but i thought at the time, mmm,me likey!Main differences i've found between them is the Busa has a lot smoother engine, more refined, more heat off the engine on the ZX,tranny better on the ZX,Busa is more comfortable,ZX a bit hard on the wrists,handling-wise not much difference.Insurance was cheaper for the ZX,although both same insurance groups?

one possible reason for the fan is the previous owner may have tinkered with it to make it come on earlier. they certainly don't normally come on that early. or your temp sensor may be pooched.

2001 ZX12R Unrestricted??? I thought it was the 2000 model that was the unrestricted bike.

Its its a 2001 it originally came with the 190mph speedometer. The 01's and up had the 220 speedo, so it has been changed. The ONLY model year un-restricted from the factory was 00 everything after that was limited to 186 mph.
