Need help identifying this part off my 12?
This is one part torn off the front of my 12, and I cant find it anywhere nor do I know where it came off of. So for all you who know your 12, please help the beans, what part is this and where does it go?
As you can see, it is broken so I need to replace it but I cant find where it goes so I can order it.

plastic or metal? hard or flexible? size?
thought of a couple things buy the parts diagrams at buykawasaki.com don't seem to confirm it. one possibility: did u have aftermarket mirrors on? the base looks similar on a pair i had.

No I am using Dino's mirrors, They came off complete without any missing parts.
Areas that were dismantled off my 12 were the upper cowling, both left and right side cowlings, the inner lower cowlings, the front ram air ducts, and the entire headight assy.
Item made of plastic, hardened it seems. As you can see in the pics above, there are two holes, they go completely through the piece so there are two holes on both sides.
Measuring this part in the same position you see in the pics above here are the dimensions in inches:
Height: .85 inches
Length (long-ways): 1.80 inches
Width (short ways): 1.20 inches
Looks like one side of it has a base (top of the part in the pictures) which sticks out an additional .20 inches on both of the long sides.
Just have no clue what part it is...thanks for any help in advance.

the only part that comes close to matching on my bike (which of course is in teh same state of disassembly as urs) is the bottom of the ignition switch housing.

So on Kawi's diagrams, I looked at the Ignition Switch diagram and the Ingition System diagram and I dont see it. Which diagram should I be looking at?

on their parts diagram it shows the ignition switch as a unit. it may not be possible to order just that piece separately. have u confirmed that it is the switch housing tho? from teh pic you posted, it doesnt look exactly the same, jsut similar.

I just scoured through the front end of my 12, and I will say with about 95% confidence that it is NOT anything to do with the ignition. Everything associated with the ignition housing and switch has been left untouched and never removed from the motorcycle.
I can see a piece similiar to the look of this piece, but its overall dimensions are much bigger.

I went out to look at my bike and I have a cam chain tensioner on it, which resembles this piece very closely in shape but it is definitely smaller in overall dimensions.
So this is still a mystery for me...hmmm

what ninja12 said: could it have come from something u hit during the event that prompted this rebuild? and maybe post a pic of the ignition switch (from teh side/underside) to check against what mine looks like? i suspect u';r correct about it not being form there, but worth confirming IMHO.

I dont think thats off of your bike beans.....looks to me like it's a car fuel injector hold down/clamp.
I dont recognize that part from the ZX12 at all.

The old ZX750-E1 (GPZ 750 turbo) had a holder that looked much like that part you have....was the hold down for the injector.

looks like it's made out of phenolic resin, the type used to help keep heat separation.....(prevent heat soak for some other part)
ya got me curious, I'll have to look at my torn down bike tonight to see if I see anything like it.

ok, i just looked all over my bike,......but I couldn't see anything. The bad part is that the motor is at a shop getting re-rebuilt.
Then, just now, I had a thought. It reminds me of something I've seen for a sensor. Maybe it only "looks like" the part I'm thinking of, but I'm thinking "sensor".
How about that one on the left side of engine, up near the top? (or is that puppy bolted to the underside of the frame there?)

That sensor is there...
I'm gonna take some more pics of the bike tomorrow.
It quite possibly may have not came off the bike, but when I dismantled the 12, I put stuff in empty boxes and brought them inside. I worked through the parts and fittings and that was the only thing left that had no home.
Same dust and material that was on the rest of the parts as well.
I guess when I put Humpty Dumpty back together again, it may find its destination.
