Are aftermarket plastics worse than stock?

I have a very good friend who owns a body shop who I inquired about repairing my 12, I was asking him about aftermarket plastics, and how hard to get them drilled for mounting and have him paint them. He replied with this email:

DAN, My honest opinion is the factory spent a shit pot full of money in a wind tunnel makeing that bike aerodinamic, I read an artical back in 2002 about that bike & what it took to make it able to go 200mph, belive it or not that factory plastic is the shit, I also seen in cycle world a artical about some guys put several differant kinds of aftermarket plastic on a busa & it honestly SLOWED THE BIKES TOP SPEED BY 8 TO 10 MPH no shit, The bike was hopped up & checked with both types of plastic, factory plastic fits good, looks normal, re-sale would be better, & comes pre painted, i would keep it stock, keep me informed john

Is what he said true? This is the first thing I've heard where I feel convinced that I should just stick with the oem plastics. Let's hear some feedback!!

OEM plastics are naturally going to fit and look better... but unless you radically change the shape, I doubt it'll really affect anything.

Honestly, the first sign that you shouldn't put too much weight into what he said was:

So, IMO, if you want it to look and fit the best, stick with OEM stuff. If you want it lighter, and perhaps easier to work on, aftermarket.
