Please tell me this is total bs...

According to this comparison:
http://www.motorbikes.be/en/compare/4649/4625/

It says the new GSXR1000 is 100 pounds less than a 12, 200cc's less than a 12, but makes the same hp....wtf?????

not really news. ~100lbs less was expected with the liter bikes hitting the same weights that the 600s were hitting a few years ago, and it seems on the street the G1K makes 5 to 10hp less than the 12. very impressive numbers no doubt about it. i'm especially impressed by teh TQ numbers, assuming that 88 is accurate. the 00/01 12R only did like 92 after all.

Real World numbers would be slightly different, but not by much. Current dyno runs are putting the new Gixxer in the mid 140's (similar to the 10R) and the 12R in the mid 150's. Torque numbers are also a bit optimistic... on both bikes. Curb (wet) weights would close the gap a tad, but not by much. Ten pounds or so at best.

Since the '04 10R has VERY similar numbers to the new Gixxer, it wasn't that hard to get rid of my old 182 RWHP (actual) '00 12R "Kaw" and get the far more nimble and lighter 10R. I'll always remember my old 12R's brutal acceleration, but it easily is thrown aside when I remember how hard it was to slow down or turn in with that extra weight. I easily "cruise" through my favorite twisty back highways at 15 to 20 mph faster than I would have ever imagined on my old 12R.

The 12R was nice for what it was, but I'll never own another one.

I'm pretty sure that Cycle World stated that the new Gixxer was 78ish in the torque department. On par or slightly better than the 10R, and coming in 1000 or so RPM sooner as well. I love the new liter bikes, but being an overgrowed sumbiatch @ 6" 4" and 240lbs. I guess I'll have to stick with bigger bikes, but it ain't so bad.

Sherm, do ya think I could keep up with you and yer 10R on yer local backroads.

Insanity and "ball size" far outweigh experience and horsepower-to- weight ratio. One could not deny that a TZ250 or a R6 would be better at the Gap than a 12R. We also know that Mark and others have taken counless such bikes and their riders to "school" on that very same stretch of US129.

That being said, if you were to ride your favorite strecth of local highway on Lil' Red and then make a couple pass on my 10R, I'd bet large amounts of money that your times would be at least 10% quicker on the 10R. After making even more passes, it would get closer to 20%. The 10R does not put the fear of death in you quite as much as the 12R did. It's more like the 10R instills insanity and the beleif one has bigger balls.

Also, if I did take you one one of my choice back roads, you would be seriously surprised on how much I have picked up the pace. Of course, it would mostly be due to the fact that I knew the roads like the back of of my glove, but I would have to say that the 10R is far better at building confidence and rewarding proper moves/lines than the 12R ever was.

So... bring you and Lil' Red on down, boy! Then I'll let Jonathan show you what riding is really all about!

I agree whole heartedly Sherm , I've rode Bart's 10R, and a couple of Gixxer 1ks (not the '05 of course) and they are a much sharper instrument than the 12R will ever be. Forgiving is the term that comes to mind when I think about those bikes versus the 12R. The 12 is just a beast period, and even though I've sampled finer wares, I still have a strong appreciation for the old beast. That said, if I were a smaller fellow I'd be all over one of the new 1ks.

Oh yeah, I have no doubt about Jon showing me what riding is all about. That little bastard can roll......................... But he sucks when it comes to landscaping!!!!!!! DOH

Thank you, Rick for the compliment. The pace we'd keep at the DG events was, um, prolly not the wisest thing I've done. But that gang bang on Harry was okay.

...but I'm just not sure what to do with the landscaping bit. What the hell are ya talkin' about? You sayin' you better at planting flowers, biatch?

Lay off da weed when take yer lunch break, ya retread.

But I have to agree with you. The 12 is certainly a beast and requires one to COMMIT to a line before corner entry. She doesn't take corrections well.

And out of all the bike I have and CURRENTLY own I have the biggest emotional attachment to my old 12. Go figure.

But she was designed for what we'd do with 'em: haul much ass over long periods of time. If I were to cross Europe and hit the Autobahn you bet the 12 would be my weapon of choice over any other bike.

Muh niggah..........

What up Jon!!!

First off, lay off da weed??? Never son, that's natures own valium, take advantage brotha.

Second, the landscaping I was referring to was those two big ruts you cut with the Durango. You know, in the yard in front of the sheriffs rental house!!! LMFAO That was funny man, you had some big roost comin' up and everything. LOL

Third, I thought we'd agreed never again to speak of the gang bang on Harry???

Fourth, we have done some CRAZY shit at the DG Events for sure. Though the innocense has been lost with some us (Chris and I ) after getting busted on the BRP, I still look forward to making that trek and selectively letting Lil' Red loose a bit. I hope you can someday make another trip over and hang out with us deadbeats. In ways it is still as insane as ever........................ and that's just fine by me.

I have read the same about the GSXr 1000, the new GSXr is putting out about the same horse power as the 12r. The weight is also lighter than the 12r. But thats just specs that are published on the web and in books,So who knows, i guess the best way to know is to have both bikes on a dyno to find out. I do know a guy who has a new GSXr 05 and we race and he is on my ass. I hate to say it but the GSxr is no joke, once they have there upgrades and mods, they will tough to beat. I just hope the new 12r loses some wieght and raises the bar on stock horse power.

The 12 will never be in the same ballpark as the GSX-R. Different bikes built to do different things.

Oh, yeah. The "Sheriff Incident." Almost as much fun as the "redneck drinking game" Bartina, Christine and I played on the way back from the liquor store.

Oh, I'll be back. I'm now in posession of a KLR-250. Don't make me give you bastids some schoolin' at the Gap on it! Wanna see a neega back in a dual sport?
