I've only done a rebuild on a Harley but they're all the same.Pistons were aluminum and it was a piece of cake.I popped them out with an airgun to where the hose attaches.Put a rag inside so the pistons don't slam each other. The calipers I was rebuilding had 60,000 and 10 yrs on them, pistons started to rust.Sprayed them down good with brake cleaner and reassembled with new parts. If you have them apart to rebuild, may want to consider powder coating them while they're out

was told there was a fair amount of corrosion/rust on the pistons so wondering if i can clean them or they need replacing. even the dealership said they'd just have to see what they look like once they've got them out. i'm just wondering if it woudl be an easy & fun job to do myself. liek tinkering on teh bike myself whenever i can instead of relying on a shop (tho it sure is alot easier to let someone else do it).

I did mine; it's not a very complex job- just time consuming & expensive if you buy KAW parts. It's actually cheaper to get a set of used calipers off Ebay than to buy the KAW parts & rebuild your own. I've got pics of my rebuild someplace; just not on THIS computer...

SUZ makes a GSXR Tockio (sp?) caliper brake rebuild kit (seals/wipers) that's a lot cheaper.

Perhaps one of our resident SUZ/dealer guys knows the part number?

i was told to expect about a $100 bill for the rebuilt kit from kaw (tho it's not a kit, jsut ordering pieces one by one), that's without replacement pistons tho. the suzuki kit sounds like a great idea. i had considered going with a good used set, but nothing decent available.

the kaw parts individually cost me >$130 at the local dealer; probably could have got it cheaper on the web? Then someone told me the Suz kits are <$90....I did NOT confirm that...

The ZRX uses the same calipers; check the site (www.zrxoa.org) & put a want in the classified section. Those MOD nutcases got spare parts up the wazoo...

I know one guy who's got 4 (!) GSXR master cylinders he's been playing around w/for sale. He's also got a set of Brembo calipers's for sale that require adapters/might just bolt up to the ZX?
