Dyno run = Rebuild Well after 6700 miles of riding my 00 red 12r , i decided to break out the check book and go get some performance work done. I already had a Arrow full system on the bike so i decided to take it to the shop for a tune up, DJ 3 usb, valve adjustment, and of course dyno and custom map. Got a call today telling me that after them doing all the work , they were doing a high speed Dyno run and all of a sudden a strange noise occured. They pulled the valve cover to discover one of the Valve stem keepers had come apart. They then pulled the head and of coarse found the valve(kind of bent). Bummer. It scared the piston and the head needs to be reworked.
Is there anything else i should make sure they look at, or do while they are fixing this? Has this happened to you?

yes put a new bearing on that rod!! and have the rod checked to make sure this is ok. ask them just an fyi, after they adjusted the valves, what valves they adjusted if any. if they adjusted that valve? and if not what were the clearances of the valves?

#1 cylinder exhaust valve, how did you know? Nice thing about this is the shop is picking up the tab. He told me it really isnt his fault, but with this being my first time there, and also spending about 1800.00 bucks, he wanted me to beable to spread the word that he runs a quality shop. He sent the head out and, ordered a new valve, guides, checked the deck height.

Because I have now had 3 do this, F##@!$%$'ing Kawasaki should do a recall.
I garrantee the head is junk, you need to send the cylinder to millieum to have it plated, and sufraced, replace the exhaust (or intake aswell) with some SS valves,do not use stock again

Come on John.... how can you guarentee with out even seeing it. I have a bent valve sitting here at work on my desk that came out of my head. we replaced the valve guide, and valve and I have not had any problems with the head since... I did have to lap the valve in, and put in a set of SS the year after....
Oh, zzzzxxxxxxr12 if you want to throw that "junk" head away I will pay shipping to my house!

ALL I used are stock valves..... stainless valves have always gotten beat up bad by the seats in the ZX12r engines i have done and dont last that long....stock valves last ALOT longer.....now ti retainers....is a different story. I dont see anything wrong with stock valves and will continue to use them.....
i would say the springs are very light also in the zx12r....thats why you dropped the valve
or MOST Likely they adjusted the valves wrong...and when they hit the limiter the valve floated and spit the shim.......have seen that happen alot on suzuki 1000's

nope all motor H/D springs , the valve broke where the stem meets the face parts in fact that is where all of them broke
