track days
Im going to participate in track days and maybe in a race called superstock. I dont have intentions of podium but I plan to have a lot of fun.
My suspension in nice,
I need advices on weight.
Can I use a 16 with a 46.??? Im getting only into 4th on the straight.
But this is my real thing tires.
I was practicing yesterday with Michelin Road on the back and BT010 on the front and I was having fun, if I pushed the rear it was sliding very controlable (this is a sport turing tire!!).
I think I can order a Micheling Power for the rear for better traction or do you think I have to go to 208GP or SC.
Thanks

My first trackday was on my 02 12, it also had a touring tire(Avon 46ST) on the back and a Sportec M1 on the front. It handled better than I thought it would, but a real handfull when the pace picked up as the weight of the bike combined with a track like Jennings over loaded my fresh newbie mind. Had tons of fun though! Gearing was a -1 on the front, I was at the limiter of 4th gear on the back straight.

my first sugestion is this, if you are going out on the track whatever tires you use, dont mismatch them ! ! !
I have used the 208 GP A's, the Pirelli SuperCorsas, the Michelin H2, Bridgestone BT014, and Metzler M-1 all on the race track. My opinion is that the best tire for traction is the Pirelli SuperCorsa. They are very predictable and wear well for what they are. Anyone of these tires offer good enough traction on the track to have fun with. The dunlop gave my bike a pretty bad headshake at hgh speeds. I did not have a steering damper on the bike at a time, so it got scary at times.
Teh H2's were slow to heat up but worked well when they did. They have a ery aggressive profile too.
If you are looking for a tire for both street and track I woudl suggest the Metzler M-1, they are the best all around tire I have seen and you cant beat the price. Check Ron Ayres website or parts411.com.
I have heard good things about the Pilot Powers, a friend is running them on his GSXR1000 right now and going to use them for a trackday next weekend. He is swearing by them right now, and there are a few places that are running specials on them.
Something as important as tires is the air pressure in them, talk to the guys at the track to see what they are running for pressures in similar tires, it makes a HUGE difference......just some thoughts......

I would use the Pilot Powers front and rear depending on shape, I absolutely refuse to mismatch tires on the track. I dont even like doing it on the street. Am I over reacting, probably, but I have never had tire issues either......just my opinion....
