Dial indicator for checking Rotors
anyone know where I can find a dial indicator to test the trueness of my front rotors (See if they are warped)?
None of the so called parts places around here has anything even close to useable.

That guage only has .030" travel...
That SERIOUSLY limits what you can use this guage for...
You would be much better off gettting a regular dial guage that has more travel (an INCH)...it can be used for many other things like...cam degreeing...
You can SEE your disc run-out by simply holding or clamping, tapeing something onto your front end that 'almost touches' the rotor...turn the wheel and watch the gap...
A guage will obviosly give you numbers but...the visual will let you see an obvious problem before you get the guage...

I just got a "basic" one
Got one from AutoZone. It will measure up to 2" in increments of .001". I bought a "L" bracket that was at least an 1/8" thick at Home Depot. I think I have less then $30 in the whole "set up". It was VERY accurate and I learned quite a bit about rotor warp. Of course, I also learned of the disadvantages of drilling "L" brackets without eye protection too. That lesson involved a trip to a "doc-in-a-box" emergency room and later, an eye specialist... to get the metal out of my eye!
E-mail me at adcraft@cei.net and I send you some pictures of how I mounted it to the fork tubes. Hell, if you want, I'll send you my whole "report" on brake rotor warpage and some possible ways to actually reduce a slight warp in your rotors. I thought it was still here, but I couldn't find it after doing a quick search.
