Pacific Raceways 2002 Used to be called SIR (Seattle International Raceway). Owners took it back over from the operator, LOTS of improvements. I'll try to show all the work that's been done so far:
This is a view of the start of the front straight, exiting the busstop. The concrete wall on the right will be moved to the left, and the concrete wall on the left will be moved to the right, forming a contiguous wall that leads onto the former hot pit area, which will now be the new roadrace front straight. (temp till 2004)
Here's a closer view of the area that is being worked on:
After a short run down this straight, there will be a left back onto the dragstrip straightaway, much like the old method of entering the track from the hot pit area.
The old turn 2 area has been cleaned up, and in place of hardpacked soil, six inches of sandtrap is in place outside the runoff areas. The runoff areas have been hyrdroseeded. (green tint)
Another view of what was turn 2, now maybe turn 3?
Coming out of the turn, the runoff areas have been greatly expanded, with the treeline back much farther. Once again, the runoff area has been hydroseeded, with sand traps beyond that.
As you come over the hill, you can see the area has been widened extensively, giving a lot more open feel. The hill has been cut back, as well.
A close up view of the old turn 3.
One of my favorite pics, a good view of what was turn 3 and 4. Note that the hill has been cut back and leveled, with sand traps and runoff areas.
Going up the hill out of the old turn 4, you can see that once again, the treeline has been moved WAYYY back, with a big runoff area to the right of the track. What is not apparent is the work to the hill beyond, an area that's put more than a couple riders out of action.
Once up the hill, there's lots of room on the right side as you come up the hill.
A wall has been added at the old turn 5 area, with provisions for airfence built into the wall. (Note the small tabs on the top of the wall)
Looking back at the wall, note the ample runoff area.
Lots of runoff as you go through turn 6 and come up on 7. Note that the area to the right has been filled extensively.
A closer (if slightly fuzzy) view.
An idea of the amount of buildup:
A good view going up the hill to turn 8. Some work has been done, with the runoff to the right increased.
A good view of the improvements to turn 8. (so far)
A good view of the start of turn 9. Lots of good runoff area, with six inches of sand behind it.
Well, that's it for a walk around PR (Pacific Raceway). The things I don't show are the busstop (it's under a huge mound of dirt right now) and the wall that guides race traffic onto the temp straight hasn't been moved yet. But I hope it gives you an idea of what racing at PR is like.
