DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT! (a disclaimer)

QUOTED FROM ANOTHER REDELK POST

Checking the valve clearance is not really any kind of rocket sceince. but if you have to actually change out shims, that could be a whole new ballgame. I kinda doubt if they will actually need adjusting. I've checked mine at around 13K and 28K miles and they were all well within spec.

As a matter of fact, I can't remember hearing anyone who checked their own 12R valves, ever having to adjust them. It's just been the one's that have taken their bike to the dealer and get greeted with a whopping bill when they come to get their bike.

Not that there isn't anyone out there that has ever needed to adjust them, I just can't remember hearing about it. My 7R had over 68K miles on it and it's valves never needed adjusting. That could have something to do with the fact that we NEVER CHECKED THEM! NOT ONCE! I guess I was just lucky on that bike.

Not real tough

I just did mine a week or so ago. Here are my thoughts.

It's not too bad if you have a service manual to give you information on minimum/maximum clearances and for reassurance during disassembly/assembly. All the torque specs are nice too. I had one intake valve that was on the borderline of being tight, and actually probably IS. I could get a .005 in real easy, it felt loose, and I thought a .006 should go without a problem but even forcing it it didn't go all the way under the lobe. But all the rest were in the middle of the road spec wise and I figured that I'd be alright so I put it back together. I figure at 15k it'll be time to tackle the shimming process.

Summary: It'll go or blow.

Valve clearences

I checked mine a month ago. At 15k, ALL were well within specs except one intake was on the border just like Ninjamans. A tight .006, loose .005 If it does not move at the next inspection, I'll leave it alone.
