...go ahead...treat yourself...

..bought the baby some new shoes today...(BT-010s)...and since I have it apart, a few Qs...

1)...what's your opinion about racetech springs and emulators(?) for the front forks...I weigh 250+ (probably 275 with the gear on...before I go po-po))...since I've never done them before and I don't want to tackle this thing right now, the local speedshop says all I need are some heavier springs and a heavier weight oil...he actually didn't try to sell me the emulators...said for my type of streeet riding, oil/spring chnage is the way to g.o

2)...do I need to set up my TPS to the proper voltage before I get the custom map done?...is this something most competent shops do anyway?...it's never been moved from the factory (still has the yellow paint unbroken on it)...I have the Kawasaki harness tool, but how do you use it to set it?

3)...I might get a Penske rear shock/spring (if my buddy at Penske comes through...heh heh)...however, the same shop said the stockers are fine and that we just have set up the proper sag with me on it.

The bike has 15,000 miles on it, I'm not a racer or a poser...I just like my stuff running right and feeling right on the streets...thanks!

22348bCVC...On the front suspension, I'm no expert. But because of your weight I'd say the heavier springs would be a good recommendation. I know some of the other members have done their forks and gotten good results and can make more recommendations than I can.

As for your TPS setting. You should at least check it as some have found that it is not always set correctly from the factory. Set it to factory specs (1.084-1.086 volts). It's detailed in the service manual.

Penske shock...Go for it if possible. It'll be better than stock and probably ride better at the same time. If you stick with the stocker, sag adjustment will help.-ZXtra

As for the springs, RaceTech will know exactly what you need, as for the emulators. Do it, they work. I am going to have mine done. The only reason I didn't have it done before is they weren't offering a 12 kit.

Actually, you need gold valves for the 12r.
Emulators are for another setup that work like gold valves.
I've used .95 racetech springs but 1.0s are going in soon.
The nice part is qith a proper spring you wont need as much compression damping so the ride is sweet.
Initial weight transfer to the front is slower so watch sudden braking in wet conditions.
Racetech seals are sweet also, they have less stiction and arnt expensive, so while youre in there...
Kawi should have put a ride height adjustable shock in the rear from the factory. The list price on the bike was high enough to cover that!
Add a few mm of extra sag in the rear and it will keep the back wheel planted better during down shifts when braking before turning in. I found it helps stop rear chatter on agressive riding during braking and downshifting.

What are you guys running for sag with the stock springs up front?

The revalving that the gold cartridges does flows a *LOT* more fluid, so your fork is much more responsive! The difference is really amazing, you have a much greater feeling of the surface under the front tire.

When I had my front end done by racetech, .95 were the heaviest available. Are 1.0 kg/mm springs out now?

Definately opt for the full montey when sending them down to Race Tech, it's worth the extra little bit!

Yeah, but they didn't. I don't think I would bother with a rebuild of the rear. An Ohlins gives you some nice options, such as hydraulic preload adjustment, the best valving in the world, etc... A couple options would be the Penske or the Fox...

But it also wallows like a bitch when you try to come out of a turn with the stock shock on the back. And on a long section of turns, the rear shock becomes overheated dealing with all that weight and flat gives up. Nothing like going on a nice ride through 60 miles of twisties, and having the shock give up about half way...

Sorry, Race Tech up front, and Ohlins in the rear.
