Gap ride today, DIALUP BEWARE pictures...1.6MB
it got to the 40s, so i took the bike out for a nice thrashing
Gap was clean, just a bit of salt on the road. Just south of fugitive bridge it was wet though.
Otherwise clean run all the way to Joyce Kilmer, where it was wet again.
Went a few miles up the cherohala as well, it started to look sloppy so i turned back. snow and ice still everywhere
Heading back through the gap i came across a semi, they'll not learn i guess.
wound it out a few times, otherwise just had a grand old time.

"Cool" pictures.
Mike, you do have to turn when you ride there.

In warmer weather, I know that there is about a 20 degrees difference in temperature between the Maryville/Alcoa area and the upper elevations on the skyway - Does that hold true for the day that you rode?
Also, of what did your riding apparel consist? I'm still trying to get my cold weather riding gear together.
Thanks

it was cooler in robbinsville than on the north side of the gap
i need to get a thermometer on the bike, so i can compare. but it was COOOOOLD up top
gear:
polypropylene underwear
cotton tshirt
turtleneck wool blend shirt
joe rocket leathers
normally i have wool socks with cotton liner
Held roadrace gloves
back protector
rainsuit (keeps wind out)
heated grips
it was chilly at a few points of the ride, but otherwise i was comfortable.
one day i'll have (or make) some nice heated gear.

I need to post some pics too, I'm spending Christmas vacation with the kid, railing the truck through the rockies to Seattle. He wanted to see snow for christmas! I think he will be plenty ready to go home, its been freekin' COLD. I have seen some pretty die hard bikers. Saw a group of 4 harleys commuting into work in Cheyenne in 5 degree (farenheight!) this morning - brave fools!
