My VIew of AMA Prostar Finals
Part of what I am writing about was the way Doug Meyer, His truck Driver Dave Harris (Who told me his name about 4 times and I asked 3 and very neat person!) and Pierre's son "JP" (I saw Coby Adams there but did not know if he had a hand in it also ? So many hands and so little time )_ Handled the pressure and put and engine and turbo into their ZX12 in about 1 hour and About Barry winning the #1 Plate!
"I watched Barry make the 10.15 pass and the Brake lights on one of his customer's bikes that ran a 10.08 to "Allow" Barry to get into the final rounds. I also watched the Honda of Ken make an 8.30 pass and the other lane "Either" Shut off or Broke to allow him to get to the later rounds. Taking nothing from his 7.30 and 7.25 runs, his "Consistency" was not up to his normal standards which would have netted him a loss in the earlier rounds and not the #1 Plate.
I also watched Bear Racing having to run against their own Team mates twice and then Rickey G in the 1/4 final rounds where RG ran a 7.39 on a wheelie prone run. I then watched 1 hour of pure work where Doug Meyer, His Truck Driver and JP (Bear's Son) remove the engine and turbo and replace it with a tired but running engine and turbo and the Crowd gave them a Standing Ovation. What made this so good was the fact that none of them had ever worked together and there was no yelling or even many words. (To me, this was more exciting than the 5.97 pass McBride made or even the 6.20 run the Aussie's made with a TRIUMPH with the weirdiest body work ever!)
The Sportsmanship award does go to Barry and Ken for making Pro-Star wait until this was over to finally "Race" it out and Ken Red Lighted to RG's 7.45 run. Barry had / has the "Performance" Advantage and the faster bike but that was not what got him the #1 plate! It was the Brake lights on one of his customer's bike he "OWES" it all to!
Actually there were two (2) Kawasaki's that could and did run 7.5's and under. Muzzy and Bear Racing. Also understand that the bike they were using this year "WAS NOT" the Bike they bought from Muzzy last year. (That bike was being used by the other South African team "MAURIS" who bought the bike from Bear. Bear;s Son JP Built the Bike they were riding and they also had another turbo bike with even more potential but not enough set up time. Remember, they had to ship (Like in slow boat from Africa) their Bikes three (3) weeks earlier just to get here on time when everyone else was working on their bikes!

Thanks for the kind words, Vincent.
A couple of notes:
Our "truck driver"/technician is Dave Harris. Coby Adams and Ryan also helped in the engine change and the Honda is ridden by Kent Stotz.
Sorry we couldn't pull it off in the final for all our loyal fans, and I want to thank those of you that made it down for the kind words and encouragement.
That engine change usually takes me about 4 hours with Dave's help and to think we did it in less than an hour and a half still just amazes me.

The deal is, when it came down to it and the Semi finals "Everybody" Stepped up and did what was right. I cannot blame them for what happened earlier because everyone in the same place would have done the same thing. The final results are, the Quickest and Fastest Bike has the #1 plate.

It was good seeing all the people Dave mentioned above, we always enjoy getting caught up. It also was great seeing Dave look so healthy, I know it's been tough but he's a fighter for sure!
Chad ended up 3rd in points for the year, of course he'd liked to have done better but trying to figure the new bike out hurt his chances. All in all it's been a blast and we thank Kawasaki & Muzzys for the opportunity and support.
