There's another problem with the theory...
Time travel is possible, but for humans, or any mammal for that matter? Hmmm. To get to 186,000 miles per second (11.2 million MPH), and beyond would be a time consuming process.
Consider man can survive a maximum force of about 10g's of acceleration or deceleration...
I'm too lazy to do the math, but here is the raw data:
1g = 30ft/sec/sec (normal earth gravity)
10g = 300ft/sec/sec (maximum force w/o stopping heart)
So if a guy started out at 0 mph and had to get to 11.2M mph, how long will it take to "stop time"?
A long friken time I assume. Then, the 'ship' would have to turn around, and decelerate for the same amount of time.

This all assumes that we (the human race) has physics figured out. How many previously "unbreakable" barriers have we discovered/created and then put behind us?
Is the speed of light in a vacuum an actual or perceived barrier?
