Today sucked...

...because I got a ticket from a city motorcycle cop for not wearing a seatbelt for $101. No gripes, because I was in the wrong.

...and I didnt get my bikeland gear in the mail yet.

Hope tomorrow is better.

sorry to hear about the ticket,it always seems like money wasted. That maybe a nice survey, how many members use seatbelts?Seems a little hypocritical in that squids are faulted for their riding attire and yet I bet,you aren't the only one who doesn't use a seatbelt among members.

keeps you planted in the seat while the car is bouncing around after impact and leaves you with the opportunity to reaquire control of the vehicle , why the hell not use it ? thrown clear almost never happens - just like a highsided bike , the car gets lonely and comes looking for your ass to nail into the ground . but hey it's your life to risk any way you choose right ? however , how bad would it suck to get hurt in an entirely preventable situation ?

My mom used to never wear one...Then she had to put up with me calling her a 'friggin raccoon' after her wreck and subsequent entirely preventable black eyes...Now she wears one all the time.

I hardly ever wear mine. never have, got caught in one once and had to cut myself out. That sucked! but to each is own. and beans tell them to go themself
go to court and plead not guilty, then have the court date changed about 5-6 times. then show up. you have a 60% chance the officer will not show. Dismissed...

If you ride in a car without a seatbelt you're not thinking things out... Try running at a wall and stopping yourself by holding your arm out...

NOPE.

Nope - our country was founded on a representational democracy. He with the most $$ (insurance companies) gets represented.

That's why everyone IS a 'special interest'.

Hell, think 'special interest' is a dirty word?

AMA is a special interest
NRA is a special interest

But they are looking out for their members.

my wife's laying here injured for several weeks now; probably for the next several years...she had taken her seatbelt off after stopping to pick up kids at school. Then was rear-ended, & bounced aroudn the car like a ping-pong ball.

wear the belt; even after stopping...

yeah but dude... some choices are just stupid. i have NEVER heard a single valid reason for not wearing a seatbelt. i think not wearing a helmet is an unwise decision too, but even the argument against helmets carries more weight than the argument against seatbelts.

Them 2 don't like me! I go out and make em move from their secret spot cause it plugs up our driveway, then they get pissy about it.

Last good car wreck I was in a belt saved my ass! Rolled a toy down I-90 and my head whacked the pavement on one of the rolls, I was on my way out the window!

Also put my monte carlo into the hitch of a monster trailer on the drivers side, if I would have had my belt on that could have really screwed my day up.

"got caught in one once and had to cut myself out. That sucked!"
this happened to me, i wear mine once in a while but I do not like them at all. I also know of a kid that was the same age as my brother and a girl that I went to highschool with that burned to death because they could not get out of their belts. The girl was very sad, she told her daughter to get out and she was like 5-6yrs old and she had to watch her mom burn alive. I understand that they can save lives but I also think they can do damage. it is the choice that we have to make in life, I dont think it is stupid at all, but it is a choice, like drinking, smoking, eating, riding. they all can effect your life. and as a very wise man once said to me life is full of inches and seconds. how your life can change in inches and seconds... think about it. Now i probably think the odds of not getting injured by wearing one are much better then not wearing one vrs. injury in an accident. but as I have said before more then once, when your ticket to ride is over your done. doesent matter if your sitting on the couch or driving down the road. after we have our baby I am sure that my view will change some, but we will see. I know I am overly protective now of christina, so I am sure I will be the same of the baby!

first decent argument i'v ever seen someone put together against seatbelts. in the case of a fire where the seatbelt wont easily come off (i assume that only happens when u'r upside down?), it would suck.

BUT... first of all, if u didnt have the belt on, what's the chance u'd even be alive and consious when it was time to get out? Plus the more important bit about the chances of wearing a belt saving you being FAR greater than the chance of it hurting you. It would be interesting to see some statistics on jsut what kinda percentage that actually is, tho just looking at the obvious factors and statistics (ie. how many crashes end in fires) i would think we're in the 95%+ range.

So there is an argument against belts, but it still seems to me that on the whole you're MUCH better off wearing one.

as to "when ur time is up, it's up"... i suppose that's a healthy attitude in itself, but as an argument against trying to keep safe, seems pretty weak to me. if i jump off my roof onto the driveway and i die, was it just my time? it's a stupid hypothetical of coruse, but i think it illustrates teh point still.

and if seeing what has happened to all of my friends who have had kinds is any indication, u prolly WILL feel the urge to really crank up the safety level once the little one arrives. funny how so many guys give up riding once they become fathers eh?

I can understand the trapped in the car/fire scenario after talking to two people I know who've witnessed it ; one a paramedic , the other just a guy I know (he probably still doesn't sleep well ) and my friends think I'm paranoid , I ALWAYS have a pocket knife with me where I can reach it just in case the belt won't release - mine or yours if I happen on an accident scene . That scenario has always scared the crap out of me . Boy scouts taught us all to be prepared right ?
