Gotta Get Me one of them R1's

183 HP stock, and 243 with a pipe, and it goes 220 MPH. Wow, and I've been wasting all my time with this 12 thing.

Somewhere a guy is going to get an R1 and think it has 243Hp. These are the guys we all have met at a bike night somewhere. The guy telling stories. The guy we usually make look very silly. Now you know where these guys come from. They are made on Ebay.

I could no resist. I had to send them an e-mail.

Sure, I stretched the truth a bit (since we do not race R1s), but we do indeed have a working relationship with Graves Motorsports. Just not with the factory. Still, BS had to be called on this one and since Mr. Mordekhov found it so important to include Redmond Auto Center's name in his auction, I felt it was equally important to point out how he has done such a "great service" in now making RAC's name known worldwide.

To: dimitri@redmondautocenter.com
Subject: 243 hp Yamaha
Cc: sales@redmondautocenter.com

Dear Mr. Mordekhov,

I was under the impression that crack cocaine was illegal nationwide. Obviously Redmond, WA must be one enclave that does not fall under such jurisdiction. The possibility of you personally consuming such a mind altering substance can be the only logical explanation of your outlandish claims in a recent E-Bay auction you conducted.

Even if the horsepower claim was measured from the crank (though implied it was at the rear wheel), it would be physically impossible for any R1 to produce such numbers. If one was to assume many modifications done to the bike were not listed, it is still beyond the engine's capabilities to produce such numbers without the addition of such items as a turbocharger or nitrous injection system. Since either item would be well worth mentioning and you did not, I can only come to the conclusion that neither are present on the motorcycle in question.

To further your deceptive claims, claimed speeds well in excess of 200 mph are also beyond the capabilities of the R1. Even if it was producing in excess of 240 horsepower. Aerodynamic issues would require an engine output near 300 horsepower (measured at the rear wheel) if not more. Substantially more. Not to mention electronic restrictions designed into the motorcycle's OEM ECU which was voluntarily put in to meet the requests of the EU to restrict motorcycle performance to 300 kph. This little fact concerning speed limitations of ALL recently manufactured sportbikes is also reinforced with the aspect that it can not be easily bypassed with the simple additions of a handful of aftermarket products.

Are you even aware that the horsepower number you are claiming is in excess of what is being produced by Yamaha's factory YZR M1 bike ridden to this year's Moto GP Championship by Mr. Rossi? Not to mention the fact that Mr. Rossi's factory bike is also incapable of attaining such speeds claimed by your bike. I feel that I am more than qualified to address such claims, being the manager of a road racing team that campaigns no less six Yamaha motorcycles. We also have a working relationship with Chuck Graves of Graves Motorsports and Yamaha's Factory Racing Division. Being a team with such support, we have access to Graves and factory performance items that are not commonly available to the general public. Even if we were to utilize each and every performance products available to us for the '04 R1, without serious internal modifications, we would not even get close to the 180 RWHP mark.

Ah, but I can take solace in the fact that your outlandish and patently false claims have already made yourself and Redmond Auto Center famous on a global basis. Internet forums (not just "motorcycle related"), around the world, are posting links to your now concluded sale of this supposed "Monster Bike". Though most have found it to be humorous, it has also been clearly pointed out that one thing is for sure when it comes to Dimitri Mordekhov and Redmond Auto Center... telling blatantly deceptive lies to sell vehicles is not just acceptable, but obviously encouraged. Hardly a place where anyone would wish to consider doing business with when wanting to purchase a new or used vehicle.

Congratulations. In just one E-Bay auction, you have now made Redmond Auto Center not only famous on a worldwide level, but infamous as well.

MP, to be TOTALLY factual, Yamaha Racing's website now says "240-plus" and I do believe that indeed the 321.865 kph (200 mph) mark has been surpassed. In other words, you are correct.

On the other hand, do you believe that while Mr. Mordekhov can't determine how many cylinders the R1 has (listed as "unknown" in the auction), he would have the knowledge of or even know how to access such information concerning Mr. Rossi's bike? Since that I doubt that he does, I will simply apologize here and to you for my ignorance. I was still under the impression that the HP numbers were in the sub-230 range. I was wrong. I can still take heart that I was still correct in stating that the claimed speed of his "monster bike" (354 kph) is superior to that of Mr. Rossi's.

Thanks for pointing that out though.

Well, I did actually get a reply. It was not from Mr Mordekhov though. It was from one of his associates, Dave Thomas (no relation to the Wendy's founder). His reply was rather simple...

I am surprised that anyone in Arkansas would have such intelligent things to say.

Not sure if I want to reply as of yet, but it is very tempting.

A reply has been generated and sent to Mr. Dave Thomas at Redmond Auto Center. Maybe not as creative as my first one, but still, I felt he deserved a response.

To: dave@redmondautocenter.com
Subject: Nothing but impressed

Dear Mr. Thomas

I can safely assume that you are not related to the founder of Wendy's. Never the less, I could not help but be impressed with your reply. Why in just a mere two days, you were able to come up with such a witty and creative response. Simply amazing. I'm sure that if you continue to impress others in such a fashion, you may actually advance from selling 243 HP motorcycles to attaining a position of authority in the apple industry, which your state seems to be so famous for. Why they might even allow you polish them prior to their shipment. If you wash your hands first, of course.

I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors working with fruits and will take great pleasure in sharing your insightful commentary on the numerous web forums that Mr. Mordekhov has all ready made Redmond Auto Center famous and nearly a household name. Naturally, I would not be too concerned if I were you. The collective membership of the forums I participate on only account for about 32,000 members and I am sure that none of them participate on any other forum I might not frequent.

Again, congratulation and have a nice day.

My, my. Who would have expected such a prompt reply?

From: "Dave Thomas"
To: "'Sherman McCoy'"
Subject: RE: Nothing but impressed

Shermanator,

Well actually I just got back from vacation to see your email. I was quite impressed with your knowledge of the bike. We took it on trade and the information that was provided came directly from the customer. Next time we take a bike in, I will make sure to ask all of the experts that spend endless hours talking about their bikes. I did not realize that it is such a serious issue and people would actual go out of their way to comment. Maybe, I could put you in touch with the previous owner and you can discuss the bikes performance. I do appreciate the publicity that we are receiving on the forums; usually you have to pay a considerable amount of money for that type of advertising. By the way how are the sales of women's underwear?

attached with the email was an image of a thong with "Backmarker Racing" and two leaning sportbikes imprinted on the front

Oh, this is too rich. It is so tempting to proceed with this mental masterbation, but I'm starting to get the feeling that it is rather unfair to have a battle of wits with someone who is obviously unarmed.
