ever got up to 102' yesterday, doc demanded I come in immediately, so back to the hospital we went. They chanced my meds again, more/heavier duty antibiotics to take, plus a different pain med Darvocet- which doesn't seem to be any better than the vicadin I was taking. Just makes me sleepy...
I also got a huge ass 3" needle inserted in my neck so they could drain fluids. Wife who claims to be brave/Mrs. Gross had to turn her head/couldn't watch. Me, being the brave/fearless guy I am tried not to flinch....but it hurt...OUCH! Only one big flinch....oh well... I flinched....it hurt....owie.
Guess she didn't get much fluid, so it's just swollen up as all hell apparently due to inflammation. We got instructions, more meds, then they just sent us on our way into Friday afternoon rush hour traffic. Well thanks a lot for nuthin' doc........grrr....
whine, bitch, snibble, cry, moan, etc........:P

'this won't hurt a bit' equals holy crap could that needle be ANY bigger?! that thing could pass a small cat!!!!
they ARE right though, it WON'T hurt them one bit...
and if you ever have a doctor say "this is gonna hurt" you better be laying down so when you pass out you don't fall over....

Had a doc tell me that once. Staph infection in my elbow. Started out like a tiny zit. Next day I couldnt even bend it for the swelling. Doc took a scalpel and said I'm gonna lance this and see if I can drain it. Then he looked me dead in the eye and said "This is gonna hurt a bit". Understatement of the year. Got a full cup of some disgusting looking stuff out of there. I could actually feel it draining out of my forearm(shiver).Of course he then had to squeeze it just to make sure he got it all. Then he put me on some super heavy duty antibiotics, knocked me right out. Slept for a week. Now I can tell you 24 hrs in advance of any impending weather change.

My friend just had kneee surgery on friday.... he called me yesterday and told me that the last thing he remembers is the anesthesiologist saying "now, i'm just going to give you a little something to take the edge off....." ... next thing he knows he's awake and cant figure out why his knee hurts so much...

Yep, they had to keep me awake thru the intibation due to the neck problem (swelling in the larynx; apparently airway was partially collapsed so it they couldn't put me to sleep until I had the air/breathing tube down my throat.) I don't remember much of it. I do remember her saying; "ok, now that that's all done, we can give you a bit more....good night." zonk! I'm out.
Next thing I know, is her saying "it's all over, your done." as she woke me up. Strange feeling... I just remember a BIG sigh of relief knowing I was waking up from the surgery as that was my big worry.....waking up. The night in the hospital was fun too; they put me in a room next to a homeless/diseased guy. I won't go into that; was a nightmare sleeping in the same room with a diseased idiot.
The last few weeks have pretty much been a blur; a lot of sleeping- apparently mostly from the heavy antibiotics, + the pain meds. Sleeping more than I have since I was a teenager. Normally an insomniac, it's weird sleeping all night long & waking AFTER sunup. It's very weird as I'm typically up 3-4 times a night, & normally up at 4-5am... I like this sleeping past 6am stuff.
