Cost me about $0.25 to go under the tail beans.
I've got mine mounted to an aluminum strap (3/4"x.0625") that goes between the rear footpegs.
If I figure out how to post a damn pic here, I'll put it up.
I was stopped about a week after installing it so I asked the ISP trooper what he thought and he said it was fine with him.

You've got mail.
The strip fits between the footpeg and the frame, so when you bolt the peg on, you can't see any of the strap.

Well you could still use the hole and the peg bolt. Not sure how clean that would look from the side though. Of course you could fab a small cover to sandwich the alum. strip between it and the frame..?
Or you could mount it directly to the undertail. Drill some holes, use plastic rivets? Guess it depends on how daring you are! I wasn't about to put holes in a $300 undertail.

mine looks exactly the same (from that angle at least) but is just bolted right to the undertail. i have the stock one tho, plus it's all broken anyway. hell, part of my undertail is the side cut out of a 4L jug of motor oil.
you can just _barely_ see it in this pic
