Counter Balancer Removal
If during the engine rebuild process, the crank is balanced, the rods are balanced and the pistons are balance, is the counter balancer neccesary?! I noticed that the counter balancer is not "balance" but seems to create a counter "off-balance".....
Does anyone know if the motor will run smooth ie: vibration without the counter balancer?!?!

Actually its there to counter the inherent vibration in a 4 cylinder engine. My friend took his out of his ZX11 and it did vibrate just a little more but was not objectionable.

The counter balancer is there for secondary imbalance. Balancing your crank does not get rid of secondary imbalance. Inline fours are inherently in primary balance except for the variations in manufacturing tolerance. When you have the crank, rods, pistons, pins and rings balanced together, you are making the primary balance perfect. It will still have a secondary imbalance. Can you remove the counter balancer? Yes, if you plug the oil holes. Will it vibrate more? Yes, slightly. Will you gain any horsepower? Yes, a couple. Are there other factors such as crankshaft torsional deflection to be considered in removing the balancer? I dunno, maybe. Will it void your warranty? Yes, definetly.
