Kawi has finally came through...
The dealer called Kawasaki up for me, and Kawi said if there isnt a mark or nick or scratch or nothing on that exhaust, then they would replace it ($1100 is the cost).
But they are saying there is some minor marks on it so they are not going to fix it. There is nothing loose on the exhaust, it is rock solid in place they say.
I've had that bike since day 1, less than a mile on it when I rode it out of the dealer, and with close to 30k miles, I have babied that thing. And now Kawi isnt going to fix it...grrrrrrrrrrr....grrrrrrrrrr.....
What good is a warranty of they dont stand behind it.
What can I do? I'm open for suggestions here.

what kind of nicks and scratches are on the pipe? has yer bike been down?

Looks like the collector is cracked.
is that so? or just dirt.
I'd be pissed if it was cracking.

Yes, I want to see past the Collector area! Remember, this is not the end of the negotiations, this is just the Beginning! Remember, you are not replacing the "Muffler" just the Collector and Primary Pipes. If there are no bashes or long scrape marks under the pipe, then you have them. I would take a few more pictures because in the area I see, I see no problems. Now if it was "Dragged in a turn" I can see their point!
One more thing, There must be 100 "Stock Pipes" that people have hanging around right here on this site! I even have one. I am willing to bet that you can get one for betweel $300 to $500 max! Someone may even offer to give you one. If you do not have any bashing, but have a few scratches then offer a 50% "Cosmetic" allowance for you to get another pipe from the dealer. There is "NOTHING " That states that you must get a "Stock Pipe either". Take the $600 and put it against the "Pipe of your choice. You have a lot of options here. Do you think if this was happening to "ME" that I would accept or have these problems? How do you think I got my Ohlins Shock for $200.00 I got a new tank for my "Out of Warranty ZX'11 because I showed them that the "Production short cut they took to make the centerstand made it a lot weaker than the Blue Print called for and caused the bike to fall over!

It is my experience that the input from the dealer has a lot to do with Kawasaki's willingness to replace something in "unusual" situations. There are times when it is worthwhile to have established a good relationship with your dealer.
Judging by all of the extra gussets and braces around that fracture, I would guess that Kawasaki should already realize that there is a potential problem.
What does the rest of the system look like? Any dings or road rash?

I just got home from the dealer, took my bike into the garage, and took off the right-side fairing to "see" what scratches they are talking about. I dont see anything at all down there. Nothing other than the normal orange burn all across the exhaust pipes.
I took some pics of directly underneath that area...is that what you all are wanting to see? Sorry, I dont know what a collector is so I just took a pic of it all. I dont see anything, so unless I am novice and dont know what to look for, please anyone tell me what they think might be a scratch?
Fish...nope, I've never had my bike down.

Okay I'm no engineere but.........
Looking at the picture, my take is that they are stress fractures created by the welding of the side plate bracing the upper and lower pipes. Notice how the cracks are propigating inwards towards the pipe joints. They are opening up as they progress to the insde "v"
I bet there are sister cracks on the opposite side of the joining pipes. Here's my final thought. The side gussets are holding heat and expanding faster, along the length, forcing the pairs apart.
'course I could be just talk'n outta my ass here.
Contact the Kawasaki DSM about it. Skip the dealer all together, if you don't have a good rapport with them.

just saw the new pics.
they are definetly stress fractures. Note how they all come from stress points in the metal. High points and low joint type areas.
Areas that are bent and joined are all high stress areas...... espcially when welded.
just my .02

beans, as vince touched on already, i'd jsut get a used stock heads from someone. u should find one for <$50 on ebay, or even free. that would save u having the biek off the road.

Dang the dealer! I called Kawi and they said they would look into it, but there was no sign of the dealer even calling them. The dealer told me that they a log was created. So Kawi told me to get the log number because they are not seeing it. And so I called the dealer back again, and they said "well, we really never entered in a log number"
Business hours are about over...I'll try to fight the good fight tomorrow I guess.

And now Kawi just told me they "cant do anything" until the dealer has contacted the warranty department and entered in a log number. I called the dealer back, and they said they will call again tomorrow and file the log number.
And I thought the wheels of the military grinded slowly...

I'd chase that on principle alone; if you got the warranty, that's CLEARLY a "defect in materials &/or workmanship." I don't know WTF I'm talking bout either (specifics of warranty coverage), but that is clearly, obiviously, a defect. It sounds like your dealer is not going to bat for you? He should if you bought the bike there...
Buy a nice, new quiet aftermarket pipe (if that's why you never got one, the Muzzy "Quiet" baffle is cool.) Buy a pipe, & get on with riding. In the year or more it will take to take for this to go to it's end, you will at least be riding. Then either get an EXACT replacement or something better: Muzzy Ti, Akropovic EVO, whatever.
Any way around, that crack should be covered...as suggested, maybe a different dealer?

beans.... what has to happen:
your dealer has to file with KMC... Get them to do this ASAP.
Next...
Call KMC and file a complaint and see if you can get it staightened out through conventional channels.
Give KMC a chance to do their thing, please.
If KMC's customer service dept tells you to pound sand they drop the ball, THEN send me an email with your phone # etc and I'll take care of it for you....

Your right though, gotta give KMC a chance to do their thing.
Hope no one takes this thread as anything negative toward Kawi. I'm as brand loyal as they come and I'd still be the first to recommend them.
I just gotta have paitence in this matter...hopefully everything will get worked out.
