Screw all that stuff...

Yeah, I've seen it and have read all about it. A nice exercise in engineering, but "reality" dictates that 99% of that "engine stuff" will never see the light of a dealer's showroom. To even think of that kind of HP or torque reaching the public's greedy lil' hands is nothing beyond wishful thinking... at best. More like "silly" thinking. It ain't gonna happen.

Just for argument's sake, let's say that it arrives just as shown. Restricted ("voluntarily", of course) to 300 kph, at least it will get there faster then just about anything else. In stock form, that is. That restriction won't be bypassed by simply snipping a wire or something like that, either. How much HP is Dennis' turbo Busa putting out? 320, is it? So, it won't be the most powerful street bike out in the "real" world.

So really, all that power is nothing but an unusable waste. All "slamming" aside, it's an engineering work of art. Do I like the way it looks? No, it's not quite my cup o' tea. I could care less on what the "numbers" say. That's not how I pick my bikes.

Still, it's apearance is not the issue. NEITHER is how much power it's would have, if it was ever manufactured. Nope, not at all. It's the "techno stuff". You mentioned some of the items, such as,

Fingerprint recognition ignition swithc
Wireless connection for remote diagnostics
Mobile phone link
GPS
Helmet-mounted heads up display
LED taillights and turnsignals

...but you miss a few items that were even more impressive. To quote a "review" from mysuzuki.home-page.org...

There's also a advanced thief alarm system. If an unauthorized person tries to start or move the bike the owner gets notified of it immediately by his/her mobile phone.

There's a microphone and a speaker built in the bike so the owner can speak with the thief by the phone. If a speaking motorcycle doesn't scare off the thief, you can activate light and sound alarm and the GPS system helps locating the bike if it actually gets stolen.

Also, there's a few more details about that diagnostic and GPS systems. Again quoting from mysuzuki.home-page.org (with a little "editing")......

There are self-diagnosis systems and advanced telemetry, which can use a mobile phone for remote maintenance AND(emphasis added) setup options.

A GPS-based weather warning system, in case you are heading for a rained out area and a helmet with a GPS navigation system using the visor as a display.

In other words, the alarm and heads up navagation are sweet, but there are even better products then that, currently available to the public... HERE IN THE U.S.! Why settle for something so mundane as a heads up display when you can have RETINAL PROJECTION!

That's right! For somewhere around $2K, you can get a set-up that bypasses all that cumbersome heads up crap and have any information you wish to know.... projected directly on your eye's retina. This could not only include GPS and bike monitoring information, BUT can also include images from a rear facing camera, eliminating the need for rear view mirrors.

I've already spoken with the company about these specific things and it is available...RIGHT NOW! They have a possible heads up "rear view mirror" set up that can be created for well under $1000. I mean WELL UNDER!

Still, for me, it boils down to "human nature" and how such neat stuff could create MORE problems, then they'd solve. It's "natural" for me to glance down towards a mirror and process the information. Just like it's natural for a racer to look over their shoulder. For me, I would think it could be hazardous to have so much "visual input" without having the accompanying physical action (like looking down at a mirror). That is at least for someone who wasn't trained in such a sensory overload (i.e. assault helicoptor pilots).

Having said all that, it's the weather warning system that give me a "woody". Not only does it use the GPS for this, but it also utilizes the mobile phone link for real time internet weather links for current conditions and forecasting. I have over a dozen weather websites bookmarked, including one I pay a MONTHLY FEE for. I still get caught in the rain, every once and a while. Hell, I even unknowingly chased a tornado for over 20 miles, dodging falling tree limbs (and later... the WHOLE DAMN TREE). I foolish thought I was running AWAY from it! I've also had the temps take an unexpected (and unprepared for) dive on me.

Having real time information (and maybe even real time radar with my current location as it's center) would be the "cat's meow"! In Arkansas, where the motto is (don't be sayin' nuttin' about cousins... we talkin' "weather" here!) "If you don't like the weather... stick around", it's not really a joke or a stretch. The weather can change in minutes. Usually for the worse.

I say, screw the navagition stuff since I already have a GPS on my tank bag and I still get lost. Screw the remote diagnostic and set-up links. With my luck, my kids would be screwing with it... WHILE I WAS RIDING. Screw the heads up stuff since I'm already easily confused.

After riding over 100K miles in the past 5 years, all I ask is... GIVE ME REAL TIME WEATHER!

In other words, yeah, it's a nice "concept", but thanks to the "safety nazis", you and I will never see such porformance available in ANY showroom. The best we can hope for is for the techno stuff to trickle down in a hassle free form.

B-King

Got the thumbs up from me when I saw the real thing in London this weekend just past.

250 rear section tyre? 300kph without a fairing? Fingerprint recognition? GPS/Sat Nav gizmo?

Bring it on.

Or was it the latex-clad fox on it that I was lookin' at that did it for me...
