00 ZX12 - Gauges going crazy...help!
Just put the motor back in my bike and the gauges are acting really crazy. When you rev the bike up at about 8K, the needle will freeze and stick. Sometimes they will go all the way around and hang. You can turn the bike off, and turn it back on and the needles will do their self test, but when you rev the bike up they stick again. If you let the bike sit and idle the temp gauge will show that the bike is running hot, but checked it with infared temp gauge and it's running normal temp. I had the bike on the dyno getting mapped and the guy could not map it, because he said when it shows that it's running hot, it dumps more fuel in. He suggested replacing the wiring harness as I might have pinched a wire putting the motor back in. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds about right. Have you grounded that lil wire in the trunk to see if if will give you any error codes??
Could EASILY be a ground problem too. Electronics are finicky. You might check and recheck all of the ground straps and connections on your battery also.

That happened to my 00 zx9r and the dealer ended up changing out the wiring harness, warranty.

If you pinched a wire it's probably in the motor harness.
the small harness that stays on the engine when you remove the engine,
injectors, spark plugs , oil pressure, and kickstand.

Ground it and it gives you error codes. If I remember correctly, it is yellow with a blk stripe. Been a few months sice I've seen my bike so I can't exactly remember what color it is.....
